Warehouse Worker Job Description The primary role of a warehouse worker involves receiving, storing, and issuing materials, equipment, and other items from stockrooms, warehouses, or storage yards. This position plays a crucial part in ensuring the efficient operation of the warehouse by maintaining accurate records and ensuring the proper storage of items. Responsibilities Receive and count stock items, recording data manually or using a computer. Pack and unpack items to be stocked on shelves in stockrooms, warehouses, or storage yards. Verify inventory computations by comparing them to physical counts of stock, investigating discrepancies, or adjusting errors. Store items in an orderly and accessible manner in warehouses, tool rooms, supply rooms, or other areas. Mark stock items using identification tags, stamps, electric marking tools, or other labeling equipment. Clean and maintain supplies, tools, equipment, and storage areas to ensure compliance with safety regulations. Keep records on the use and/or damage of stock or stock handling equipment. Examine and inspect stock items for wear or defects, reporting any damage to supervisors. Provide assistance or direction to other stockroom, warehouse, or storage yard workers. Determine proper storage methods, identification, and stock location based on turnover, environmental factors, and physical capabilities of facilities. Essential Skills Verbal and written communication skills. Analytical and problem-solving ability. Team player and detail-oriented. Knowledge of relevant equipment, policies, procedures, and strategies to promote effective security operations. Additional Skills & Qualifications High school diploma or GED required. 5-7 years of experience required. Willing to work a flexible shift. Ability to stand for at least 8 hours with or without reasonable accommodation. Capable of performing tasks including pushing, pulling, grasping, and lifting with or without reasonable accommodation. Work Environment The warehouse is a climate-controlled, clean facility divided into several departments, each involving tasks like manual opening of items, filling containers, checking orders, and placing orders. Employees are expected to wear appropriate attire, including jeans, khakis, or dress pants, t-shirts, polo shirts, and closed-toe shoes. The dress code prohibits sleeveless shirts, shorts, dangling jewelry, and clothing with inappropriate graphics. Employees can have one earbud in to listen to music and may carry their phone in their pocket, but must not use it on the floor. Shift hours are from S, W, Th, F - 3:30p to 1:30a. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Mechanicsville, VA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $15.00 - $15.00/hr.
