Job Title:
Material Handler - Forklift (1st Shift, Shipping Department) Job Description This role supports the smooth flow of products throughout a manufacturing and warehouse facility, with a strong focus on shipping and packaging activities. You will move, stage, and track materials, ensure inventory accuracy, and handle outbound shipments using forklifts, pallet jacks, and basic hand tools. The position involves significant data entry for shipping documentation and requires careful attention to detail, safe forklift operation, and the ability to interpret engineering information. Responsibilities Move and stage parts, materials, and finished goods throughout the facility using forklifts, pallet jacks, and other material handling equipment. Update material and inventory locations in the computer system to maintain accurate and current records. Issue kits for production work-in-progress and final assembly, ensuring that all required components are available and correctly staged. Maintain inventory accuracy by monitoring stock levels, verifying counts, and ensuring items are stored in the correct locations. Determine appropriate methods of storage and stock locations, taking into account height and weight limits, turns, floor-loading capacities, and required space. Transport parts and materials between locations and departments in accordance with product routers and production requirements. Receive finished goods from production work-in-progress and transfer them to designated storage or shipping areas. Perform shipping, receiving, and packaging tasks, including palletizing, building crates using basic hand tools, and preparing products for outbound shipment. Complete data entry related to shipping documentation, including shipping documents, bills of lading (BOLs), customs paperwork, packing slips, ship-out reports, and damaged shipment documentation. Track customer shipping requirements, payment methods, and freight accounts to ensure shipments meet customer and carrier specifications. Read and interpret engineering drawings and bills of materials to understand packaging, crate-building, and material handling requirements. Administer outgoing company and customer shipments, including product, parts, and general mail, and route all outgoing domestic and international shipments through appropriate carriers and transportation methods. Maintain a clean and organized work area and assist with departmental housekeeping to support a safe and efficient environment. Comply with all safety procedures, policies, and guidelines, including safe forklift driving practices and proper use of personal protective equipment. Actively participate in company-sponsored training programs, including cross-training across departments and functions such as welding, machining, assembly, and materials. Collaborate effectively with colleagues at all levels, as well as with external contacts such as vendors and customers, to support smooth operations. Perform other duties and projects as assigned to support overall production, materials, and shipping needs. Essential Skills High school diploma or GED. Ability to read, comprehend, and follow verbal and written instructions to perform material handling and shipping duties. Strong attention to detail, particularly when handling inventory, shipping documentation, and data entry. Basic computer skills with the ability to perform data entry and type approximately 30 words per minute. Ability to read and interpret engineering bills of materials and blueprints or drawings. Ability to operate a forklift safely, with prior forklift experience required; stand-up forklift experience preferred. At least 1 year of experience using basic hand tools, including building crates and performing packaging tasks. Ability to understand and follow written instructions, including engineering drawings, for packaging and material handling. Demonstrated safe forklift driving practices, with willingness to obtain or update onsite forklift certification if needed. Experience in warehouse, shipping, receiving, and packaging environments. Ability to lift 40+ pounds and perform physically demanding tasks such as palletizing and moving materials. Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Previous experience in material handling, shipping, or related fields preferred, but not strictly required if core skills and experience are present. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience working in a manufacturing or warehouse environment handling industrial products or components. Familiarity with shipping documentation processes, including shipping documents, bills of lading, customs forms, and packing slips. Experience tracking customer shipping requirements, freight accounts, and payment methods. Comfort working with high-performance teams and participating in group settings that emphasize leadership and project management skills. Willingness to participate in rotational development and cross-training programs across functions such as welding, machining, assembly, and materials. Ability to maintain professional working relationships with colleagues at all levels and with external partners such as vendors and customers. Openness to contract-to-hire opportunities, with the understanding that long-term employment may depend on business conditions and staffing needs. This is initially a contract-hire position, intended to cover a leave of absence, with the potential to transition to full-time employment depending on business conditions and staffing needs. The work environment involves regular use of forklifts (including stand-up forklifts), pallet jacks, and basic hand tools for building crates and packaging products. Employees work around heavy materials and equipment and must be comfortable lifting 40+ pounds and performing physical tasks such as palletizing and moving materials throughout the shop. The facility emphasizes safety as its highest priority, with a dedicated on-site EHS manager, robust safety procedures, and continuous improvement of safety practices. All required personal protective equipment and uniforms, including safety glasses, hearing protection, masks, and other PPE, are provided. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Enumclaw, WA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $22.45 - $22.45/hr.
