Job Description

  • Job Title: Material Handler
  • Job Description
  • This role supports a new high-flow production facility by safely moving, staging, and organizing materials using powered industrial trucks and related equipment.

Material handlers work in areas such as yard support, dock support, and picking/putaway, ensuring that large and small components are in the right place at the right time to keep production flowing efficiently. The position involves extensive forklift operation, handling large commodities, and using scanners and basic ERP tools to complete picks, putaways, and staging tasks.

  • Responsibilities
  • + Operate powered industrial trucks (PIT), including sit-down forklifts, order pickers, and larger equipment such as tractors and 15,000 lb lifts, in a safe and efficient manner.

+ Support yard operations by handling large commodities such as firetruck cabs and bodies, moving them to designated locations and staging areas.

+ Perform dock support activities by unloading incoming trucks, verifying materials, and staging loads in the correct areas for production or storage.

+ Execute picking and putaway tasks using PIT equipment, accurately retrieving and storing materials according to established processes.

+ Use RF scanners and related scanning systems to complete picks, putaway transactions, and material movements as required.

+ Assist with staging parts and delivering materials to production lines, including supporting modline operations as needed.

+ Perform basic data entry in ERP systems such as JDE or similar tools when required to record material movements and inventory transactions.

+ Follow standard operating procedures to support the standardization of builds and the efficient flow of materials through the new high-flow line facility.

+ Inspect equipment before use, report any issues, and maintain a clean and organized work area to promote safety and efficiency.

+ Collaborate with team members and remain flexible to assist in different material handling areas based on operational needs and individual skills.

  • Essential Skills
  • + 2+ years of experience operating forklifts, primarily sit-down forklifts, in a material handling or warehouse environment.

+ Proven material handling experience, including picking, staging, loading, and unloading materials.

+ Hands-on experience using RF scanners or the ability to quickly learn scanner operation, supported by comfort using mobile devices.

+ Experience with ERP systems such as JDE or similar tools for basic data entry related to inventory and material movements.

+ Demonstrated ability to safely operate powered industrial trucks, including sit-down forklifts and, where applicable, larger PIT equipment.

+ Experience unloading trucks and staging materials in designated areas for production or storage.

+ Ability to perform repetitive physical tasks, including operating equipment for the majority of the shift and moving materials of various sizes.

+ Strong attention to detail to ensure accurate picking, putaway, and staging of parts and materials.

+ Ability to follow established procedures and adapt to standardized processes in a production or warehouse setting.

  • Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • + Experience handling large commodities such as vehicle cabs, bodies, or similar oversized components.

+ Experience working in multiple material handling functions, including yard support, dock support, and picking/putaway.

+ Comfort working with both order pickers and sit-down forklifts throughout the shift.

+ Willingness to learn and use integrated scanning systems that pair with ERP platforms.

+ Flexibility to move between different areas of the facility and support various teams as operational needs change.

+ Ability to thrive in a new or evolving facility environment where processes are being refined and standardized.

  • Why Work Here?
  • You join a growing operation that offers clear opportunities for advancement, including a direct path to multiple raises within an 18-month period.

The organization is expanding and actively hiring, creating strong potential for long-term placement beyond the initial assignment for those who perform well. You work in a setting that values adaptability, teamwork, and continuous improvement, giving you the chance to build your skills while contributing to the success of a new high-flow production facility.

  • Work Environment
  • This role is based in a new high-flow line (HFL) facility focused on producing less customized trucks more efficiently.

The environment is dynamic and fast-paced, with a strong emphasis on standardized processes and continuous improvement. Team members spend the majority of their day operating powered industrial trucks: yard support roles typically spend 7580% of the day on larger PIT equipment such as tractors and 15,000 lb lifts; dock support roles spend about 90% of the day on sit-down forklifts unloading trucks and staging materials; picking and putaway roles spend approximately 95% of the day on a mix of order pickers and sit-down forklifts. RF scanners and integrated scanning systems are used regularly, with limited but occasional use of ERP systems such as JDE. These are new positions in a newly stood-up facility, so being adaptable and open to helping in different areas is essential. Shifts include a preferred 1st shift schedule of four 10-hour days (4:00 a.m.2:00 p.m.) with the possibility of five 8-hour days if needed, and a 2nd shift of four 10-hour days from 2:00 p.m. to 12:00 midnight. The work is hands-on and equipment-focused, with a strong emphasis on safety, collaboration, and supporting a smooth material flow through the facility.
