Material Handler Job Description The Material Handler receives, inspects, documents, and stores primarily raw materials in a manufacturing plant that produces trailers for government contracts. This role unpacks incoming products, verifies counts and part numbers against shipping documents, performs visual quality inspections, records data in the computer system, and ensures materials are labeled and placed in the correct storage locations to support efficient production operations. Responsibilities Receive incoming products, primarily raw materials, into the plant in a timely and accurate manner. Unpack and un-package incoming materials safely, ensuring all items are handled carefully to prevent damage. Verify product counts against paperwork or bills of lading, confirming quantities, part numbers, and descriptions are correct. Perform visual inspections of incoming materials to identify defects, damage, or quality issues and report any discrepancies. Document product counts, part numbers, and related information in the computer database accurately and consistently. Print and affix appropriate labels or identification to products prior to storage to ensure accurate tracking and retrieval. Place materials in the correct storage locations according to established procedures and inventory systems. Operate forklifts and other material handling equipment to move, load, and unload materials safely within the facility. Pick and stage materials as needed to support production, assembly, and other internal departments. Assist with packing and loading activities when required to support shipping or internal transfers. Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area in compliance with plant safety and housekeeping standards. Collaborate with team members, assembly personnel, and other departments to ensure material availability and accurate inventory. Follow all plant procedures, safety guidelines, and work instructions related to material handling and equipment operation. Essential Skills At least 2 years of material handling experience in a manufacturing or warehouse environment. Previous forklift experience with the ability to safely operate forklifts and related material handling equipment. Ability to use computers to document materials in the inventory or production system. Experience with receiving, picking, packing, loading, and general inventory handling. Strong attention to detail for verifying counts, part numbers, and documentation accuracy. Ability to perform visual inspections and identify obvious quality or damage issues. Basic data entry skills and comfort working with computer-based tracking systems. Ability to work safely in a production plant environment and follow established procedures. Additional Skills & Qualifications Previous assembly experience in a manufacturing setting. Previous mechanical repair experience or hands-on mechanical work. Previous experience working on government contracts or in a regulated production environment. Comfort working with air tools, fabrication, or assembly processes in an industrial setting. Ability to work overtime as needed to meet production and material handling demands. Why Work Here? Work Environment This role is based in a manufacturing plant that produces trailers for military use under a large government contract. The facility is clean and well lit, with tall ceilings and clearly defined areas, including machining and fabrication, assembly, and a paint shop. The assembly area is organized into cells where trailers are built. The plant is heated in the winter but not air conditioned in the summer, so it can become warm during hotter months. Noise levels vary, with some areas experiencing intermittent noise from air tools, though it is not consistently loud throughout the facility. The plant employs approximately 100 people and currently operates only on first shift, with typical hours of 6:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Monday through Thursday and overtime as needed. The role involves regular use of forklifts and other material handling equipment, as well as computer systems for documenting materials. Job Type & Location This is a Permanent position based out of Clintonville, WI. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $19.00 - $23.00/hr.
