Material Handler Job Description The Material Handler supports both shipping and material handling operations in a warehouse environment, splitting time between preparing outbound orders and operating forklifts to move materials and finished products. This role involves working with large sealed chemical drums, printing and applying labels, staging pallets for shipment, and safely operating sit-down and stand-up forklifts to supply production lines and organize inventory. Responsibilities Work in the shipping department to print labels and prepare pallets for outbound shipments. Handle large sealed and empty chemical drums, ensuring safe and accurate movement throughout the facility. Spend approximately half of each day on shipping tasks such as labeling, palletizing, and preparing orders for shipment. Operate sit-down and stand-up forklifts to pick materials, supply production lines, and stage finished product for shipping. Use a computer system to print labels and track shipment and inventory information accurately. Utilize RF scanners when needed to scan products, verify orders, and maintain accurate inventory records. Load trailers and remain on-site until loading is complete, which may occasionally require working beyond the scheduled end time. Follow all safety procedures when operating forklifts and handling drums to maintain a safe work environment. Maintain a clean and organized work area on the shipping docks and in warehouse storage locations. Collaborate with team members and follow direction to move between shipping and material handling tasks based on operational needs. Essential Skills At least 2 years of forklift experience in a production or warehouse setting. Minimum of 1 year of sit-down forklift experience. Minimum of 1 year of stand-up forklift experience. Ability to safely lift up to 55 pounds on a regular basis. Experience working in a warehouse or shipping environment. Ability to use a computer to print labels and track shipment or inventory information. Strong attention to detail when labeling, staging, and preparing orders for shipment. Ability to work until trailers are fully loaded, including occasional additional time at the end of the shift. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience using RF scan guns to track inventory and confirm orders. Experience operating a stand-up forklift in tight or high-traffic areas. Experience operating a reach truck in a warehouse environment. Familiarity with handling drums or similar large containers in a warehouse or shipping setting. Ability to work independently while following established procedures and safety guidelines. Why Work Here? The standard schedule is first shift, Monday through Friday, from 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., with occasional additional time required at the end of the day to finish loading trailers.
