RC# 902436 DESCRIPTION / ESSENTIALFUNCTIONS
This position supervises staff that operates and maintains the City's water and wastewater treatment plants, drinking water wells, sewer lift stations, Tempe Town Lake Dam and associated infrastructure and the utility's centralized control center. Ensures operations are compliant with Arizona Department of Environmental Quality, Environmental Protection Agency and department policies and regulations. Duties include, but are not limited to the following Assign staff schedules, monitor workflows and quality of work, evaluate performance, coordinate training and manage hiring, performance improvement and disciplinary matters. Participate in treatment and maintenance operations and ensure activities are in compliance with all applicable regulations, safe work practices, and department guidelines and protocols; recommend improvements and modifications when necessary. Recommend and assist in the development and implementation of organizational goals and objectives. Ensure work is appropriately documented, and staff are utilizing asset management and workorder systems. Serve as the primary contact for projects conducted in area of responsibility. provide input on the design, modification and construction of facilities and systems. Coordinate maintenance activities with staff, contract vendors, facility maintenance, and internal support staff. Utilize SCADA system to provide trends and data to support plant operational goals or to support engineering related projects. Completes monthly regulatory compliance paperwork related to assigned area. Supervises Plant Operators in a control room environment who operate the distribution and collections system. Prepares city water order and well requests to meet city water needs. May perform responsibilities of a similar nature and level as assigned.REQUIREMENTS
Experience:
Four (4) years of experience in operating and maintaining a water or wastewater treatment facility or associated infrastructure or related experience. Candidates must have the minimum amount of work experience. Years of experience are based upon a full-time work schedule (2,080 hours per year). The sum of an applicant's full-time and/or part-time qualifying work experience must meet or exceed the stated minimum qualification. Education will not substitute for the required work experience; however, related unpaid and/or volunteer work experience may be used as qualifying work experience.Education:
Equivalent to an associate or vocational/technical school degree in Environmental science, engineering, natural sciences or related field. The term "equivalent" means that directly related work experience exceeding the required work experience will substitute in equal one-year increments for college-level education (2 additional years for an associate degree and 4 additional years for a bachelor's degree). Professional Licensure and/orCertifications:
Valid driver's license Arizona Department of Environmental Quality (ADEQ) when assigned to Control Center (SCADA) Grade 4Water Treatment System Operator Certification Additional:
