View More Jobs Receiving Chemist I San Jose, CA, United States Apply Now Job Description Summary The Receiving Chemist I is responsible for receiving, sampling, coding, consolidating, and shipping hazardous waste materials in accordance with the facility Waste Analysis Plan (WAP), DOT, RCRA, OSHA, and Clean Harbors Environmental Services (CHES) protocols. This role supports safe operations, accurate documentation, regulatory compliance, and efficient inventory and logistics management within the facility.
Shift & Pay Schedule:
Morning shift, 7:00 AM - 3:30
PM Pay Range:
$23.00 - $24.00 per hour , based on experience Responsibilities Essential Responsibilities Receive, open, sample, and analyze incoming drums and lab packs following the facility Waste Analysis Plan (WAP) and CHES procedures while ensuring QA/QC compliance. Accurately code and process incoming waste materials for disposal, routing, and billing using the WIN system and CHES barcoding standards. Verify inbound shipments against paperwork and maintain proper inventory control of supplies and cylinders. Stage, coordinate, and ship waste materials to approved disposal outlets in compliance with DOT regulations and least-cost routing protocols in partnership with National Logistics. Perform consolidation, repackaging, and bulking of lab pack materials, including reactive substances, when applicable, while ensuring safe handling and documentation. Operate and calibrate laboratory instruments for basic chemical analysis. Safely move drums and containers using forklifts, yard mules, and other material-handling equipment. Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment in compliance with OSHA and company Health & Safety standards. Perform additional duties as assigned based on business needs. Qualifications Qualifications Education & Experience Associate degree (or two years of college coursework) in Chemistry, Environmental Science, or a related field OR equivalent specialized training. 0-3 years of related laboratory, chemical handling, or hazardous waste experience. Required Certifications / Training 24-Hour OSHA Training Forklift Certification RCRA and DOT Training Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities Ability to work effectively in a team environment and follow direction. Strong organizational and communication skills. Ability to adapt to changing business needs and take initiative. Solid understanding of math, chemistry, and chemical testing principles. Proficiency with Windows-based applications. Working knowledge of the facility Waste Analysis Plan (WAP). Demonstrated knowledge and tested proficiency in at least two of the following areas: Lab Pack Coding/Processing Drum Receiving/Coding Shipping of Waste Materials (or advanced knowledge in one area prior to progression).
