Job Title:
Wastewater Quality Intern This is an entry-level internship position that may result in a full-time role depending on the candidate's performance and position availability.
Summary:
The Wastewater Quality Intern will assist with the oversight of all aspects of Laboratory and Wastewater Treatment Plant operations and administration of the treatment of potable water under intense supervision. In addition, the intern will assist in analyzing wastewater samples.

Major Duties:
Work with mentors to learn about the Authority's wastewater treatment process and opportunities of interest within the industry. Under close supervision assist with the QA/QC program for the laboratory. Under close supervision collect compliance and all other samples from around the county. Assist the Industrial Coordinator and Process Control Coordinator in answering wastewater laboratory complaints and questions. Under close supervision participate in the operation of wastewater treatment or process control facilities and maintenance thereof including taking samples and running of tests. Under close supervision, assist with the performance of a variety of chemical and physical analyses on samples collected. Identify opportunities to improve processes in the Wastewater Treatment Plant and both the process and micro labs.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of the principles of chemistry, biology, physics, and related sciences as they pertain to water/wastewater treatment and environmental science.
  • Knowledge of principles of mathematics.
  • Ability to learn the procedures and materials used in chemical, biochemical, bacteriological, physical, and instrumental analyses of water and wastewater.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
  • Ability to remain flexible and efficient in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to effectively multitask while analyzing and solving problems.
  • Ability to make intelligent and quick decisions, working well under pressure, and when faced with unexpected occurrences or delays.
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
Must be dependable, able to follow instructions, respond to management direction, and must be able to improve performance through management feedback.
Qualifications:
  • A candidate for this position must have graduated from High School or the equivalent.
  • Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver's license issued by the State of Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
  • Ability to obtain Wastewater Laboratory Analyst license.
  • Must possess an understanding of communications (both written and verbal), have a positive attitude and personal drive, a willingness and ability to learn in a fast-paced environment, and learn from constructive criticism.
Physical Requirements:
  • Work is performed within an office setting, warehouse setting, laboratory setting, and within the field, while intermittently sitting, standing, stooping, or walking. The employee may be exposed to noise, dust, dirt, grease, machinery with moving parts, irritating chemicals, and occasional cold or inclement weather. Work requires the use of protective devices such as masks, goggles, or gloves.
  • Must be able to traverse and inspect all areas of the job site in all types of weather; this may include walking, climbing, reaching, bending, crawling, or stretching.
  • The employee must occasionally lift and be able to move objects of up to fifty pounds; specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus, in various environmental conditions.

Pay:
$18.00 - $20.00 per hour
