Job Description

The Waste Handler- Compliance Associate is responsible for daily collection, packaging and labeling of laboratory chemical wastes for transport and disposal; managing and inspecting building waste storage areas and selected safety and emergency equipment; documenting required inspections. The Waste Handler- Compliance Associate will work independently or in a natural work group to produce timely and reliable results while meeting all regulatory and Dow requirements. High School diploma or equivalent required Post-secondary coursework or training in environmental science or equivalent on-the-job experience needed Able to communicate well, verbally and in writing, and have strong reading comprehension and listening skills Detail-oriented and analytical with a discerning eye for finding compliance issues during inspections of assigned facilities A self-starter who is self-motivated and can find, prioritize, and carry out multiple tasks with safety a priority Strong multi-tasking skills and adherence to deadlines Good interpersonal skills Proficient in Microsoft applications, such as Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint, and can learn new systems quickly.
Salary:
The expected rate for this position ranges from $19 to $21 hourly. The actual hourly rate will be determined on an individualized basis taking into account a wide range of factors including, but not limited to, relevant skills, experience, education, and, where applicable, licenses or certifications held. In addition to the hourly rate and a competitive benefits package (including health, vision, and dental insurance, paid time off and a 401(k) retirement plan with employer matching), this position may be eligible for additional types of compensation including discretionary bonuses and other short- and long-term incentives (e.g., deferred cash, equity.etc)

Essential Job Duties:
Waste Collection & Packaging Collects waste from laboratories and process areas for transportation to Central Accumulation Areas (CAA) within each facility. Ensure laboratory waste containers are properly labeled prior to removal from labs/process areas Utilizes available resources to determine proper waste disposal methods. Ensures waste packs comply with federal, state, local and Dow regulations and requirements Maintains CAA including housekeeping, waste pack storage, waste inventory sheets, packaging supplies, and posting of signs. Completes and documents inspections of the CAA and other waste storage areas in accordance with Resource Conservation and Recovery Act RCRA requirements. Interacts with R D personnel to plan individual clean-ups and projects that may involve special waste disposal activities. Coordinate with various work groups to organize and complete building wide cleanups. Compliance Tasks Performs periodic checks of safety equipment and maintains files of required documentation. Initiates and follows through on issue resolution as needed (i.e. work order submittal and completion tracking) Reports task completion status to Supervisor (i.e. Via OPD or other tracking mechanism). Safety shower and Siren checks (weekly) -Not completing these just validating they were done, entering any work orders needed and marking off in OPD Universal checks waste (quarterly)
SPCC/PIPP
(monthly) RCRA checks (weekly)
