POSITION SUMMARY

This position directs and oversees all aspects of the Waste Water Department. Such aspects include, but are not limited to, the planning, organization, implementation, and supervision of activities related to compliance with regulatory procedures and reporting practices. Oversees sampling and testing systems, and functionality of pumps and other equipment.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Plan, organize, implement, and supervise daily activities of the Waste Water Treatment Plant.
Manage inventory of all city assets and report any problems.
Responsible for ensuring all equipment is operated safely and correctly by department employees.
Direct purchasing of materials and supplies necessary for operating water and wastewater infrastructure according to city procedures.
Submit annual departmental budget and provide other reports, analyses, and project recommendations.
Responsible for holding monthly safety meetings as required and attended by a representative from Human Resources.
Promote and adhere to mandated safety precautions and policies, and ensure that all safety equipment is safely operable.
Required to track maintenance and enter into maintenance software.
Responsible for the daily report to city officials and the City's consulting engineer.
Responsible for coordinating the City's consulting engineer to plan various project scopes and plan future work.
Assist the clerical assistant in providing a descriptive monthly report to the Mayor and Board of Aldermen.
Responsible for pulling samples required by Federal and State regulatory agencies.
Provide leadership to others through example and sharing of knowledge/skill.
Participate in proactive team efforts to achieve departmental and City government goals.
Required to respond to emergency call-outs and to work during all weather conditions when requested.

Perform other duties as assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Perform limited HR/Payroll functions for supervised employees, such as, but not limited to, participating with hiring, discipline, and or termination of employees; time labor reporting; FMLA reporting; Worker's Comp reporting, etc.

EDUCATION

High School diploma or general education degree (GED), and possess/obtain Water (D) Operator, and Wastewater Class (II) Waterworks Operators Certificate from the Mississippi Department of Health.

EXPERIENCE

Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Skilled with the operation of a SCADA system.
Possess knowledge of safety principles and practices.
Ability to remain calm and tactful in stressful situations.
Ability to maintain accurate and complete records
Highly detail-oriented and organized in work.
Ability to manage and work with a variety of people and personalities.
Ability to meet assigned deadlines.
Ability to analyze needs and requirements to manage and complete a project.
Must be highly organized and adept at problem-solving.
Must possess a valid Mississippi driver's license with five (5) years of a driver's record that shall reflect no charges that would adversely affect insurability under the city carrier's policy.

TECHNICAL SKILLS

Proficiency with utilizing computer software, such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.
Proficiency at operating standard office equipment, such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines.
Familiarity with operating radio communication equipment and systems

PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL DEMANDS

The physical demands described here are representative of those required to perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to climb or balance, taste or smell, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, and lift/move objects up to 100 pounds. The employee will be frequently required to stand, walk, sit, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and lift/move objects up to 100 pounds. The employee is regularly required to speak, listen, see, and lift/move objects up to 100 pounds. The use of a corrective lens to aid the employee is acceptable. This position requires you to work indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions with exposure to biological hazards.

TRAVEL:

This position requires travel 20% of the time.
