Description Description Under the direction of the Director of Public Works, the purpose of the position is to manage the wastewater system as well as operate light and heavy equipment. Employees in this classification have a thorough knowledge of the principles of the wastewater system. This position is responsible for successfully maintaining the wastewater operations, the work, and the equipment materials, and supplies utilized by the department. Performs related work as required. Essential Functions Maintain wastewater systems as required. Operates simple to moderately complex equipment such as backhoes, loaders, paving machines, frontend loaders, grade all, concrete vibrators, box blades, and jackhammers. Operates various types of trucks in the hauling and distribution of materials. Participates in establishing traffic control devices such as signs, barricades, and cones. Guides traffic at work sites. Schedules excavation of utility cuts. Respond to emergency situations after hours or on weekends. Maintains operational records. Reads meters as necessary. Assist other departments as necessary. Attendance; regular and timely attendance during assigned work hours. After-hours and weekend work is required as necessary. Deadlines; ability to set and meet appropriate deadlines. Timely follow-up and follow-through with staff and others. Effectively multi-task and work under time pressure and deadlines. Communication & Record Keeping; ability to read, comprehend and effectively communicate, both verbally and in writing, in English. Communicate effectively and professionally with staff, volunteers, council, and others. Financial; ensure all expenditures are within budget. Utilize corporate credit cards ethically and responsibly. Submit receipts monthly. Ensure all financial functions, recordkeeping, and reporting are performed timely and accurately and that records as properly created and maintained. Policies & Procedures; perform duties by City policies, procedures, standards, and comply with local, state, and federal law. Safety; follow safety policies and rules. Stay Current; keep up with trends and changes. Confidential Information; safeguard confidential information and disclose it only to those in need to know. Teamwork; work effectively with others as part of a team to ensure efficient operations and enhanced productivity. Qualifications High School diploma or GED equivalent; supplemented by one year (1) previous experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience involving the plumbing trade or water/wastewater line repair. TCEQ Collection I-Sewer certificate or equivalent. May be required to obtain a TCEQ Class C distribution certificate. Must pass a pre-employment drug screening, and physical and criminal background check. Must possess a valid State of Texas Drivers License, reliable transportation, and ability to drive; maintain and provide proof of liability insurance. Have and maintain a professional, inviting, and friendly demeanor. Must have a working cell phone and the ability to respond to after-hours calls. Supplemental InformationADA COMPLIANCE
Physical Ability:
Tasks involve the ability to exert heavy physical effort in heavy work, with greater emphasis on climbing and balancing, but typically also involving some combination of stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling, and the lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of moderately heavy objects and materials (20-50 pounds); may occasionally involve heavier objects and materials (up to 100 pounds). Some tasks require visual and odor perception and discrimination.Sensory Requirements:
