THE POSITION
A Technician I/II performs a variety of infrastructure maintenance and repair duties related to the Lemon Grove Sanitation District sewer system within the Public Works Department. There is currently one (1) vacancy and will be filled at either level. Duties may include but not limited to the following:
- Perform dig alert mark-out of City's underground assets.
- Operate a variety of sanitary cleaning tools and equipment.
- Operate and maintain a variety of construction and maintenance equipment, sewer flushers, CCTV equipment, light and heavy trucks, and power tools, such as jackhammers, concrete saws, tampers, rollers, compressors, generators, skip loaders, backhoes, Skid steers, gas and leak detectors, shoring equipment, airless spray equipment, heat bonding machines, and stripers
- Perform preventative maintenance on City equipment and tools.
- Install, repair and maintain sewer mains and laterals in emergency situations; raise manholes
- Set up traffic control devices in heavy traffic environments.
- Assist in the operation of districts CCTV camera and locating equipment in the inspection and maintenance of sanitary sewers and storm drains, computer literacy a plus.
- Ability to read and interpret maps related to sanitary sewers and underground drainage systems.
- Respond to emergency call-outs after hours to include streets, sewers, storm drain, parks and facilities. May be required to work overtime and off-hours shifts as needed
- Utilize proper safety precautions related to all work performed; Use appropriate PPE
- Perform storm drain and flood channel duties when assigned.
- Ability to operate combination truck cleaning equipment and all its attributes.
- May have to perform work in confined spaces.
- Dig, shovel, haul, load and unload soils, sand, asphalt mixes and other materials; haul materials to and from sites
- Keep work related records using a computer; assist in the instruction and training of less

experienced staff; build and maintain positive working relationships with co-workers, other City employees and the public using principles of good customer service; and perform other related duties as assigned.
- Perform additional Parks opening and closings on weekends and holidays.
- Assist streets and facilities departments in the maintenance, repair, and construction of streets, signs, pavement markings, trash pickup, and graffiti eradication on an as needed basis.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Both positions require high school graduation or its equivalent;
Technician I:
- Requires a Valid class C California driver's license.
- One (1) year of experience in general construction, maintenance work, or the equivalent;
- Possession of a Class "B" learner's permit at date of hire is highly favorable, with possession of a valid Class "B" California driver's license with air brakes and tankers endorsements within six months of hire date as a condition of continued employment and must be maintained while employed by the City.
Must have tank endorsement when assigned to Sanitation Section.
Mandatory Requirement :
In accordance with
DOT FMCSA
regulations, for employment in a position that requires a Class A/B license, applicants will be required to sign a written authorization for the release of information, from their employers of the past three years, relating to their participation in a controlled substance and alcohol-testing program. We are required to obtain this information from an applicant's prior employers regardless of their driving status during this previous employment; and
- Must obtain CWEA Collections System Grade 1 Certification within 1 year of hire date.
Technician II:
- Requires two (2) years of experience in general construction, maintenance work, or the equivalent;
- A valid Class B (unrestricted) commercial driver's license with tankers endorsement and Qualified applicators certificate must be obtained once the 12-month probationary period has been successfully completed as a condition of continued employment and must be maintained while employed by the City.
The ideal candidate will be able to possess the ability to work independently and complete daily activities according to work schedule; and ability to communicate orally and in writing.
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
Technician I:
$39,068.64
- $63,648.00 per year, effective 07/1/26; DOQ;
Technician II:
$41,988.96
- $68,402.88 per year, effective 07/1/26; DOQ;
- 4-Day work-week (closed every Friday);
- Two (2) weeks of paid vacation per year with increases based on length of service;

WORKING CONDITIONS
Physical Conditions :
Incumbents are required to lift and/or move up to 50 lbs. and occasionally lift/move more than 100 lbs.
Work Environment :
Incumbents are required to work in outside weather conditions and may be exposed to wet and/or humid conditions.
