Job Description

Skilled work in the operation of light and moderately heavy trucks and automotive equipment. Work involves responsibility for the safe and efficient operation of equipment and for the safety of helpers. A variety of units may be operated and an employee in this class often participates in related loading and unloading activities. Work is usually performed in accordance with established schedules and routes, and without immediate supervision, although work is checked frequently for the care exercised in driving, promptness and thoroughness. Drives open bed truck and/or barrel type packer truck in an assigned area. Supervises a small group of workers. Operates dump truck in cleaning catch basins and supervises a small group of workers in rodding and dragging sewers. Operates a roller used in asphalt rolling and edging fresh rocked shoulders of streets. Operates a dump truck with a brush chipper attached, and follows tree trimming crews grinding limbs, branches and leaves that are cut down. Operates a trash truck in hauling trash. Operates a backhoe in the maintenance and construction of roads, drainage systems and water/wastewater line and fire hydrants. Operates a skid steer/Loader to move and load a variety of materials. Operates a tractor with mowing bar or riding lawn mower in grass cutting operations. Operates a brush grinder or sprayer in cleaning and caring for public grounds. Operates pick-up, flatbed and dump trucks transporting gravel, rocks, lumber, pipes, cement, and/or other construction materials. Services and makes minor repairs to equipment operated. Performs other related work as required. A high school diploma or its equivalent and six (6) months experience in the operation of medium to heavy trucks or related automotive equipment requiring the possession of a Commercial Driver's License (Class B or higher). OR An equivalent combination of education and experience beyond a high school diploma or its equivalent and six (6) months of the required experience.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
A valid State of Florida Commercial Driver's License (Class B or higher) must be submitted at time of application and be maintained valid throughout employment in the classification. Employees in this classification may be required to work various shifts, to include nights, holidays, and weekends.
SPECIAL NOTE
Depending on the hiring department and area of assignment, candidates may be subject to a Level II background screening.

To qualify under the equivalency clause, applicant must provide proof of education in one or more of the following applicable forms: an Associates degree, or at least 60 college credits, or a Bachelors degree or higher. •

Credential evaluation reports showing the United States equivalency for academic credentials earned in other countries may be provided by: An accredited four-year college or university in the United States, OR A current member of the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (NACES), OR A current member of the Association of International Credential Evaluators (AICE), OR A recognized Professional Organization For additional list of approved credential evaluation agencies visit the Florida Department of Education 2. Copy of a valid State of Florida Commercial Driver's License (Class B or higher) must be submitted to the Department of Human Resources at time of application and maintained valid throughout employment in this classification. It is the applicant's responsibility to ensure that all required documents submitted with the employment application are in a format that is acceptable, clear and legible for eligibility determination or risk being disqualified. Applicants, including City of Miami employees, must completely detail their work experience on the employment application or risk being disqualified. City Residents:
In accordance with APM 2-02, applicants for classified positions who are City of Miami residents and new hires will receive preference in selection from interview ranking bands provided that any two (2) of the following documents are submitted with the employment application and again at time of interview: A.
