Job Description

Job Description New School Aquatics is seeking a dependable and hardworking Aquarium & Pond Service Technician to join our daytime service team. This position involves traveling to residential and commercial properties throughout Oahu to maintain saltwater aquariums, freshwater aquariums, koi ponds, and decorative water features. The ideal candidate is dependable, comfortable working independently, and interested in learning professional aquarium and pond maintenance. Previous aquarium, pond, landscaping, plumbing, or general maintenance experience is preferred, but we are willing to train the right person. Responsibilities Perform scheduled maintenance on saltwater and freshwater aquariums Maintain koi ponds and decorative water features Complete aquarium water changes Clean aquarium glass, gravel, decorations, and filtration systems Test water quality, salinity, pH, and other required parameters Clean pond filters, skimmers, pumps, UV sterilizers, and related equipment Remove algae, leaves, sludge, and other debris from ponds Inspect fish and aquatic life for signs of stress, illness, or injury Identify and report leaks, equipment failures, and water-quality concerns Safely handle aquarium and pond chemicals Transport water, equipment, livestock, and maintenance supplies Keep company vehicles, tools, and work areas clean and organized Complete service reports and communicate important findings Interact professionally with residential and commercial customers Follow company procedures and all applicable safety requirements Work independently and remain on schedule throughout the day Schedule Daytime hours Full-time and part-time opportunities available Typical shifts are scheduled Monday through Friday Occasional weekend, holiday, emergency, or after-hours work may be available Start and end times may vary depending on the daily service route Requirements Reliable, punctual, and able to follow a daily service schedule Valid driver's license and clean driving record Dependable transportation to the New School Aquatics shop Comfortable driving a company service vehicle Able to work independently after completing training Comfortable working outdoors in sun and rain Comfortable working around water, fish, and aquatic animals Able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds Able to bend, kneel, climb, and perform repetitive physical tasks Comfortable entering ponds while wearing waders when required Strong attention to detail Professional appearance and communication Able to use a smartphone for schedules, directions, photographs, and service reports Willing to undergo applicable employment screening Preferred Experience Experience in any of the following areas is helpful but not required: Saltwater or freshwater aquarium maintenance Koi pond maintenance Aquarium filtration and water chemistry Water-feature maintenance Pumps, plumbing, UV sterilizers, and filtration equipment Landscaping, custodial work, or facilities maintenance Fish handling or aquatic animal care Customer service Compensation Starting at $18 per hour Higher starting pay may be considered based on relevant professional experience Paid hands-on training Opportunity to learn saltwater and freshwater aquarium maintenance, koi pond care, water quality, filtration systems, and aquatic-animal care Opportunities for additional hours and advancement based on performance and company needs About New School Aquatics New School Aquatics is a Hawaii-based aquarium and pond service company with more than 20 years of industry experience. We maintain saltwater aquariums, freshwater aquariums, koi ponds, and decorative water features for residential and commercial customers throughout Oahu.
