The Public Works Apprentice position is a temporary 3-year work training program, with the potential for additional training programs designed to cross train and help individuals establish skills that will help build a career. While the City cannot guarantee full-time employment after completing the Apprentice program, many employees who have held similar positions have gone on to full-time Public Works careers. Public Works Department:

Collect refuse, recycling, and yard waste Operate all types of heavy equipment, such as scooters, rear packers, and hook lifts Become familiar with routes through refuse collection and snow operations Participate in training initiatives, such as landfill safety and dumpster emptying Familiarity with using hand tools and power tools/equipment Good driving record and must be able to attain a CDL License Class B with Air Brake Endorsement Ability to work alternate work-hour schedules for winter, weekends, and when workload dictates At least 18 years old The ability to perform strenuous physical lifting and work in all weather conditions Excellent benefits package of employer funded and voluntary benefits: Medical, dental, vision Paid time off, sick leave and holidays Retirement pension (IMRF) - best funded state retirement plan Voluntary benefits: Aflac, Family Service EAP, Wellness Program Rate of pay that will rise with experience!

Full Pay Range:
