POSITION SUMMARY
The Sanitation Specialist is responsible for maintaining a clean and safe production environment by performing routine deep cleaning tasks in accordance with company standards and regulatory requirements. This role requires the ability to work independently, stay focused, and follow detailed procedures, including allergen control and chemical handling. The position involves wearing company provided Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) at all times and adhering to strict safety protocols. This position currently operates on a 7:00am-3:00pm shift, five to six days per week. While the standard schedule is consistent, occasional extended shifts may be required from time to time to support operational needs.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Perform thorough cleaning and sanitizing of production and packaging equipment to ensure a safe and hygienic environment. Receive comprehensive training in the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), chemical handling, product knowledge, and sanitation procedures across all production areas. Maintain cleanliness and organization of chemical storage areas, including the safe replacement of chemical barrels. Demonstrate efficiency, integrity, and a positive attitude while carrying out sanitation tasks. Collaborate effectively with team members to support a clean and safe workplace. Exhibit reliability and consistency, which are essential to the success of the sanitation team. Uphold strong work ethic and take pride in contributing to a high-performing team. Take on additional responsibilities as assigned to support overall operations. Follow all company policies and procedures related to safety, conduct, and equipment maintenance. Develop proficiency in safety protocols and production procedures, including emergency response, hazard communication, lockout/tagout, confined space awareness, and more.
WORKING CONDITIONS
This role requires frequent standing, walking, and use of hands for handling materials and equipment. Clear communication and a range of vision abilities - including close, distance, peripheral vision, depth perception, and focus adjustment - are essential. Color vision is necessary for certain tasks. Regular physical activity includes climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling, all performed using proper ergonomic techniques. The ability to taste and smell may occasionally be required. Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds regularly, and occasionally lift 50 pounds or more using safe lifting practices and appropriate equipment. Sitting is rarely required in this role. Operation of various equipment is expected, including computers, scientific instruments, and measuring devices. Compliance with Balchem Corporation's Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) policies is mandatory for all employees and visitors in the plant. PPE will be provided and must be worn as required to ensure a safe working environment. The work environment may occasionally involve exposure to wet or humid conditions, moving mechanical parts, high noise levels, vibration, and extreme temperatures. There may also be periodic exposure to elevated work areas, fumes or airborne particles, chemicals, outdoor weather conditions, or other industrial hazards. All safety protocols must be followed at all times.
REQUIREMENTS
High School Diploma or general education degree (GED) required One to three months related experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education or experience Individual must be equipped with strong motivation, organization, time management, documentation, and communication skills (both orally and written) Must have excellent attention to detail, multi-task and prioritize Demonstration of strong work ethics (punctual, dependable, and trustworthy) Ability to utilize common sense and skills in completing responsibilities conforming to Company personnel and safety procedures Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos Ability to write simple correspondence Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization Must be able to communicate and handle conflict in a professional manner Ability to give and welcome feedback and contribute to building a positive team spirit
