Job Description

Job Title:
Pump Maintenance Technician Job Description This role focuses on installing, inspecting, rebuilding, troubleshooting, and repairing pumps and related equipment that support daily landfill operations. The technician also performs general maintenance tasks on pumps and associated systems, working primarily outdoors in a landfill environment while handling a variety of hands-on duties throughout the day. Responsibilities Install, inspect, rebuild, troubleshoot, and repair pumps and other mechanical equipment used in daily landfill operations. Perform general maintenance on pumps and related systems to ensure reliable and safe operation. Use hand tools and basic mechanical tools to perform repairs, adjustments, and equipment installations. Assist with operating heavy equipment, such as skid steers and bobcats, when needed and if experienced. Support operation of vacuum (VAC) trucks on site, including assisting with setup, operation, and basic maintenance as needed. Carry out a variety of general labor tasks, including construction-related and carpentry-type duties, as required for pump and system maintenance. Work outdoors in all weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, and wind, while performing labor-intensive tasks. Adapt to changing duties throughout the day, moving from one job assignment to another as operational needs arise. Follow safety procedures and site guidelines while working in a landfill environment that includes strong odors and dirty conditions. Maintain a clean and organized work area and properly handle tools, equipment, and materials. Collaborate with a small field crew to complete daily assignments efficiently and safely. Remain flexible with work hours by coming in early, staying late, and working occasional Saturdays as required. Prepare to operate company trucks and travel to other regional sites once converted to a permanent role, contingent on meeting driving record requirements. Essential Skills At least 1 year of experience working on a construction job site. At least 1 year of general labor experience in a physically demanding role. Mechanical aptitude and experience working with hand tools. Ability to perform installation, troubleshooting, and repair tasks on mechanical equipment. Comfort working outdoors in all weather conditions and in a landfill environment with strong odors and dirty conditions. Willingness and ability to perform physically demanding labor for extended periods. Openness to working overtime, including early starts, late finishes, and occasional Saturdays. Ability to work effectively as part of a small crew in a field-based environment. Capability to meet driving record requirements (MVR) when transitioning to a permanent role to operate company vehicles and travel to other sites. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience working with heavy equipment such as skid steers and bobcats is a plus. Background in carpentry, deck building, landscaping, or similar outdoor labor roles is highly beneficial. Experience operating a VAC truck is a strong plus. Any prior experience with pump repair or pump maintenance is advantageous. Previous experience in service, repair, or maintenance roles involving mechanical systems is helpful. Comfort performing varied tasks and switching between different job duties throughout the day. Why Work Here? Employees join a relaxed and flexible work environment where no two days look the same, and they are not held to strict production quotas like in many manufacturing settings. Once hired permanently, team members enjoy benefits such as a 401(k) with profit sharing and a generous employer contribution, medical insurance, and paid holidays and PTO that grow with tenure. The crew is small and close-knit, offering the opportunity to work with a variety of equipment, gain hands-on field experience, and build a stable, long-term career with opportunities to travel to additional sites in the region. Work Environment The role is based at a landfill site in Murfreesboro, TN, where the team maintains the leachate system rather than working directly with garbage. The environment carries strong landfill odors and can be dirty, so candidates must be comfortable working in these conditions every day. Work is performed outdoors in all weather conditions, including sun, rain, heat, and cold, and involves regular physical labor. The crew is small, currently around eight people, creating a tight-knit, field-focused team. Contractors may assist with operating VAC trucks and may work around heavy equipment such as skid steers and bobcats. The schedule is typically Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., but hours can fluctuate, with early starts, late finishes, and occasional Saturday work as needed. Break and lunch times vary based on daily workload and operational demands. Dress is practical and work-oriented, suitable for outdoor, dirty, and physically demanding tasks in a landfill setting.
