This is a physically demanding, essential position that contributes to sanitation operations and public cleanliness.Essential Job Functions:
Stand/ride on the side of a garbage truck and load refuse by hand. loading responsibilities with coworkers. Clean, wash, maintain, and service tools and equipment. Load and unload materials and equipment. Work safely near highway traffic. Perform other duties as assigned. Minimum Requirements toPerform Work:
High School Diploma or equivalent OR equivalent training/education/experience. Valid State of Texas Class B Drivers License with Air Brake Endorsement. Or ability to obtain within six months of employment. Must maintain a driving record satisfactory to the City and its insurers. Requirement is a condition of hire and continued employment.Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of:
Municipal government practices and public relations. Proper care/maintenance of assigned tools and equipment. Skill in: Performing laborintensive tasks (loading, unloading, refuse handling). Using materials/equipment related to sanitation duties. Clear oral and written communication. Using computers and jobrelated software. Following written and verbal instructions. Time management and resource utilization. Using lawnmowers, line trimmers, machetes; trimming trees, weeds, brush; moving through brush/rough terrain. Ability to: Respond to afterhours emergency callouts. Utilize good judgment and work safely. Communicate effectively with customers and City staff. Work independently with minimal supervision. Follow and enforce safety procedures. Identify and resolve problems promptly. Process information accurately. Work effectively with employees at all levels, management, and citizens.Physical Demands:
Exert up to 100 lbs occasionally, 50 lbs frequently, 20 lbs constantly. Handling, standing, walking required. Will perform lifting, carrying, twisting, and manual labor.Work Environment:
Exposure to dangerous materials/situations requiring safety precautions. May require protective equipment. Exposure to extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, odors, loud noises. Work outdoors and in various weather conditions.City Disclaimer:
