Job Title:
Cable Technician Job Description This contract Cable Technician role supports a high volume of low-voltage projects across the Columbia, SC and Rock Hill, SC areas, with the potential to transition into a long-term opportunity. You will work on a variety of commercial environments, including schools, hospitals, office spaces, and data centers, focusing on pulling, terminating, and testing CAT 6 cabling as part of a collaborative field team. Responsibilities + Install, pull, route, and secure low-voltage cabling, primarily CAT 6, in commercial and construction environments such as schools, hospitals, office spaces, and data centers. + Terminate CAT 6 cable at patch panels, jacks, and other endpoints using proper punch-down and termination techniques. + Test and certify CAT 6 cabling to ensure performance and compliance with project specifications and industry standards. + Work with additional low-voltage media, including CAT 5, fiber, and coax, as required by specific projects. + Use basic hand tools and test equipment safely and effectively to complete daily installation and troubleshooting tasks. + Follow project plans, drawings, and instructions from supervisors or lead technicians to ensure accurate installation and timely completion of work. + Travel between multiple job sites within approximately one hour of the main project area using reliable personal transportation. + Collaborate with team members on-site, communicate progress, and assist others to maintain a safe, efficient, and organized work environment. + Adhere to all site-specific safety rules and construction standards while working in active commercial and construction settings. Essential Skills + Hands-on experience pulling, terminating, and testing CAT 6 cable in commercial or construction environments. + Proficiency with low-voltage cabling includingCAT 5, CAT
6, fiber, and coax. + Ability to perform proper terminations and punch-downs on jacks, patch panels, and related hardware. + Comfort working in commercial and construction environments, including active job sites. + Ownership and competent use of basic hand tools required for low-voltage installation work. + Reliable transportation with the ability to commute up to approximately one hour between job sites. + Ability to work effectively as part of a field installation team and follow direction on-site. Additional Skills & Qualifications + Experience with fiber optic cabling is a strong plus. + Backgrnd as a helper or apprentice in a skilled trade or low-voltage environment is beneficial. + Familiarity with testing and certifying low-voltage cabling in commercial projects. + Willingness to learn and adapt to different types of commercial facilities, including schools, hospitals, office spaces, and data centers. You will work on active construction and renovation sites where conditions can vary, requiring adherence to safety practices and appropriate job-site attire such as work boots and durable clothing suitable for construction environments. Work involves regular use of basic hand tools, low-voltage test equipment, and ladders or similar access equipment as needed. Travel between multiple sites within roughly an hour's drive is a routine part of the position, and daily tasks are performed as part of a collaborative on-site installation team. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Columbia, SC. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $30.00/hr.
