Job Description

Girl Scouts of Northern California is hiring Camp Healthcare Managers at our three summer camp locations near the San Francisco Bay Area. These are seasonal summer camp positions and staff are expected to work 40-60 hours per week while campers are on site. Meals and lodging are available. Position Summary:
The Health Care Manager is responsible for providing health and safety services to campers and staff. Promote high standards of health and wellness and lead in the cultivation of a culture of mindful health practices at camp. Implement camp-wide health and safety guidelines to mitigate risk of injury and illness.
Essential Duties:
Provide healthcare to meet the needs of staff and campers. Implement camp-wide health and safety guidelines which may include: mask-wearing, hand-washing, frequent disinfecting of high-touch areas, social distancing, and other protocols as directed. Oversee daily medication management, logging, and distribution to units. Supervise and care for people admitted to the Health Center. Provide CPR and First Aid as necessary Provide direct care to staff and campers within the scope of their skills, the camp's health care manual, and treatment procedures. Manage the collection, review and maintenance of health forms and records. Participate as a member of the crisis team. Support social emotional needs of campers such as missing home. Call and communicate with camper's guardians on a regular basis, keeping them up to date with camper needs while at camp. Work independently. Participate in activities, hikes, waterfront programs and more as required for supervision of camper and staff health and wellness. Maintain accurate and detailed medical records according to ACA standards, state codes, and guidelines from GSNorCal and GSUSA. Perform all duties in accordance with these regulations. Set up and maintain the camp Health Center. Ensure staff and camper health examinations are current and on file. Prepare and utilize daily medical logs for treatment and medications. Cross-check all unit medication logs. Prepare and record insurance and accident report forms. Conduct an initial and end of season inventory. Order all necessary medical supplies and equipment. Follow schedule for checking location and equipment for safety, cleanliness and good repair. Prepare notes on treatment for camper's families, as necessary Be aware of and implement safety guidelines. Update and maintain external medical resources and relationships. Oversee First Aid procedures and supplies Prepare and distribute first aid kits. Ensure supplies are well stocked and distributed as needed. Maintain the camp trauma bag and supplies. Work with other staff to minimize/eliminate health and safety risks; conduct frequent camp walk-throughs to assess and eliminate safety concerns. Review camper health logs and inform Camp Director of health conditions of campers and staff on regular basis. Deliver staff training session on camp health care. Ensure camp staff and campers know their role related to health care and first aid. Provide or ensure orientation is provided that includes treatment protocols, specific camper health and social needs, health center procedures, emergency procedures, staff health assessment of campers, policies on contacting parents, transportation to outside health facilities, accident prevention and risk management, nutrition, and first aid in the camp setting. Supervise sanitation conditions throughout camp, maintaining a clean and orderly work environment. Establish expectations for unit sanitation and stock appropriate cleaning supplies for each unit, including Travel Camp. Sweep, scrub, wax floors, clean and disinfect surfaces in health center. Clean toilets and bathrooms in health center. Wash bedding in health center and any soiled bedding from living units. Dispose of trash and waste. Safely handle hazardous materials, including blood, feces and vomit, according to safe practices. Screen all campers and staff who are arriving and departing camp. Verify health history and examination. Verify Covid-19 agreement. Verify emergency authorization. Identify any observable evidence of illness or communicable diseases. Conduct a health assessment. Keep all medications used by campers and staff locked. Notify food service staff, ad staff and counselors of all food allergies. Maintain high standards of health and safety in all activities for campers and staff. Follow all health and safety protocols as outlined during staff orientation. Act as a steward of camp. Keep the property clean and participate in shared kapers. Be alert to campers needs and assist them with personal and/or health problems, and discuss with health staff and/or Camp Director when appropriate. Be alert to equipment and facilities to ensure proper utilization, care, and maintenance is adhered to; report repairs needed promptly. Report accidents, incidents, and illnesses promptly. Supervise area housekeeping and sanitation. See that supplies are available and that equipment is used properly. Submit up-to-date health information to camp health center. Provide superior client service to all campers, parents/families, staff, volunteers and vendors. Identify client needs, make suggestions, initiate and follow through with appropriate action. Notify Camp Director when parents should be contacted. Responsible for parent communication and follow-up as appropriate for position. Act as a representative of Girl Scouts by following the values of Girl Scouting whenever in contact with families, vendors, volunteers, and/or the public. Identify client needs, make suggestions, initiate and follow through with appropriate action. Be a role model to campers and staff in your attitude and behavior. Follow and uphold all safety and security rules and procedures. Adhere to the Camp Culture Code. Work to build a sense of belonging for all of our community members. Participate as an active ally at camp. Commit to LGBTQIA+ Allyship, Antiracism, and Anti-Oppression Participate as a member of the camp staff team to support camp-wide camp functions. Attend staff meetings. Drive for trips as needed. Other Duties as assigned.

Minimum Age:
21 Must submit health history record and examination record dated within one year on first day of work. Current certification in First Aid and CPR including, Pediatric First Aid, CPR for Adult, Child and Infant and AED (unless covered by higher certification). Current certification and/or license in First Aid and CPR for the Professional Rescuer, Wilderness First Aid, Wilderness First Responder, CNA, Medical Assistant, Emergency Medical Technician, Paramedic, Registered Nurse, or Physician. Certification in CA Preventative Health & Safety preferred. Ability to drive, possession of a valid driver's license, and clean DMV record.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge and experience with Girl Scout sleepaway camp program preferred. Comfortability leading/supervising others Self-starter and organized. Experience in both child and adult illness/injury care. Community health knowledge.

Ability to work on a team, relate and work well with others. Ability to accept guidance, direction and supervision. Ability to maintain camper safety in high-stress situations. Ability to tolerate and navigate emotional and mental discomfort in difficult situations. Adequate self-regulation and coping skills for a live-in, high-energy workplace. Must support the beliefs and principles of the Girl Scouts. Understand the development needs of youth. Ability to relate to youth and adults in a positive manner. Dedication to developing a positive community culture focused on inclusion and belonging for all.
Physical Job Requirements:
Ability to understand and implement safety regulations and procedures. Ability, both visual and auditory, to identify safety hazards, monitor guest and staff behavior, enforce safety regulations and emergency procedures. Ability to lift 50 pounds. Some occasional lifting of up to 75 pounds. Ability to carry and load luggage, tables, chairs, and other program equipment. Ability to read and follow directions on medication labels, health forms, physician orders and parent letters. Ability to use a telephone. Ability to maintain written record system. Physical ability to respond appropriately to situations requiring first aid. Must be able to assist campers in an emergency (fire, evacuation, illness or injury). Ability to observe and assess sanitation and safety conditions of the camp. Ability to walk/hike several miles daily, at various grades, elevations, and on uneven terrain. Possess endurance to perform tasks including prolonged standing, bending, stooping, and stretching. Ability to communicate with parents, staff, and administration. Ability to live in rustic setting and work irregular hours. Operate with daily exposure to various weather conditions and animals such as bugs, snakes, rodents, bats, raccoons, and other wilderness animals common to the area. Expectations for all
