Role:

The Camp Parkwood Counselor/Group Leader plays a pivotal role in creating a safe, engaging, and supportive environment for campers of diverse backgrounds and ages. This position is responsible for leading and supervising a group of campers, facilitating daily activities, and fostering personal growth, teamwork, and positive social interactions. The counselor acts as a mentor and role model, ensuring that each camper feels valued and included while promoting camp values and safety protocols. Through effective communication and leadership, the counselor helps campers develop new skills, build confidence, and create lasting memories. Ultimately, the role contributes to the overall success and positive reputation of Camp Parkwood by delivering an enriching and enjoyable camp experience. Minimum Qualifications:

Must be at least 16 years of age. Previous experience working with children or in a camp setting (Group Leaders). Ability to obtain and maintain current CPR and First Aid certification. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to pass a background check and comply with all camp safety standards.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience in leadership or group facilitation roles. Training or certification in child development, education, or recreational leadership. Ability to lead specialized activities such as arts and crafts, sports, or outdoor adventure. Multilingual abilities to support diverse camper populations. Previous experience in conflict resolution or behavioral management.

Responsibilities:

Supervise and lead a group of campers throughout daily camp activities, ensuring their safety and well-being at all times. Plan, organize, and facilitate a variety of recreational, educational, and team-building activities tailored to the campers' interests and abilities. Serve as a positive role model by demonstrating respect, responsibility, and enthusiasm, fostering a supportive and inclusive camp culture. Communicate effectively with campers, parents, and camp staff to address concerns, provide updates, and support camper development. Respond promptly and appropriately to emergencies or behavioral issues, following established camp policies and procedures.

Skills:

The required skills such as effective communication and interpersonal abilities are essential for daily interactions with campers, parents, and fellow staff, ensuring clear understanding and positive relationships. Leadership and organizational skills are used to plan and execute engaging activities that meet the developmental needs of campers while maintaining a structured environment. First Aid and CPR skills are critical for responding to health or safety incidents promptly and confidently. Preferred skills like specialized activity leadership and multilingual communication enhance the camp experience by offering diverse programming and supporting inclusivity. Conflict resolution and behavioral management skills help maintain a harmonious group dynamic, allowing the counselor to address challenges constructively and maintain a positive atmosphere.
