Job Description
Campus Chief of Police Salary Schedule Placement:
Commensurate with education and experience according to Salary Schedule C3. In addition to adhering to the general guidelines as specified by the Faculty/Staff Handbook, the Dean of Students, and the President, and Alabama Community College System Board of Trustees, responsibilities will include the following: Plan, direct, supervise, and evaluate the activities of the Campus Police Department. Knowledge of active shooter response protocols, emergency preparedness procedures, and the ability to coordinate, conduct, and evaluate campus active shooter drills and safety training exercises in collaboration with local law enforcement and emergency response agencies. Enforce all applicable federal, state, and local laws, as well as College policies and regulations related to campus safety and security. Coordinate and supervise departmental personnel, training activities, and operational procedures. Implement and support crime prevention programs and campus safety initiatives. Conduct annual performance evaluations for Campus Police Department personnel. Coordinate public safety operations during special events, athletic activities, and student gatherings to ensure campus safety and security. Serve in a leadership role during emergencies and assist with implementation of the Incident Command System (ICS). Respond appropriately to campus emergencies and public safety incidents affecting the College community. Maintain effective working relationships and mutual aid partnerships with surrounding law enforcement agencies. Direct investigations involving violations of college policies and federal, state, or local laws and take appropriate action when necessary. Prepare reports, correspondence, and presentations related to departmental operations and public safety matters. Represent the Police Department on committees, meetings, and community partnerships. Prepare annual departmental budget requests and operational reports as required. Attend conferences, professional development training, and educational meetings relevant to campus police operations. Work well with others and show respect to all college constituents. Awareness of Clery Act compliance and campus safety best practices preferred. Demonstrated commitment to professionalism, integrity, and community service. Knowledge of public safety communication systems, policies, and procedures. Perform other duties as assigned by the Dean of Business and Finance or the President.Note:

Master's degree in criminal justice or closely related field required. Minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible law enforcement experience required. Alabama Peace Officer Standards and Training Commission (APOSTC) certification required. Valid driver license with acceptable driving record required. Demonstrated oral and written communication skills required.Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in criminal investigations, patrol operations, and crime scene supervision. Experience supervising personnel and coordinating law enforcement activities. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with local law enforcement agencies and community stakeholders. Experience responding to emergency situations and coordinating public safety operations. Strong leadership, organizational, and problem-solving skills.ESSENTIAL CHARACTERISTICS
Knowledge of criminal investigations, patrol procedures, evidence collection, and emergency response operations. Ability to supervise personnel and coordinate law enforcement activities effectively. Ability to communicate professionally with students, faculty, staff, law enforcement agencies, and the public. Strong investigative, organizational, and analytical skills. Ability to maintain professionalism and sound judgment in high-pressure situations. Ability to build relationships and engage effectively with the campus and surrounding community. Skilled in report writing, documentation, and maintaining accurate records. Ability to provide leadership and guidance during emergencies and critical incidents.
