Summary:
Essential Functions Plan, organize, and facilitate woodworking and restoration projects as assigned Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, sketches, and project specifications Fabricate, repair, and install cabinetry, trim, furniture, interior paneling, flooring, and structural wood components Restore and maintain historic wood finishes and architectural details within passenger railcars Operate and maintain woodworking equipment including table saws, planers, jointers, routers, sanders, drill presses, and hand tools Select appropriate woods, veneers, adhesives, finishes, and hardware for each project Troubleshoot project challenges and identify materials or tools needed to complete work Create and facilitate projects to completion including any related paperwork or service reports Communicate plans and projects effectively to other employees, training them if necessary Maintain the highest standards concerning quality craftsmanship and safe work performance Maintain clean work practices and understand the importance of dust control and shop organization Understand and adhere to company safety policies and procedures Demonstrate a willingness to work with others and prove dependability Take direction and instruction well Assist in special projects as needed Complete service reports and maintain records as required Actively participate in safety meetings Provide daily progress updates to supervisor Understand and utilize measuring, layout, and precision woodworking tools Possess appropriate personal woodworking tools per company tool list Education/Minimum Requirements Must be 18 years or older Highschool diploma or equivalent At least 3 years of experience in working in a railroad or heavy equipment shop and possess a strong mechanical and woodworking aptitude Certification from a trade school, woodworking program, carpentry apprenticeship, or equivalent hands-on experience preferred Demonstrated experience operating commercial woodworking equipment safely and effectively Experience with historic restoration or custom fabrication preferred Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills Knowledge Knowledgeable in cabinetry construction, finish carpentry, wood species, veneers, laminates, adhesives, and wood finishing techniques Proficient in measuring, layout, joinery, fabrication, and installation Skilled in the use of both stationary and portable woodworking tools and equipment Ability to perform detailed finish work with a high level of craftsmanship Knowledge of wood repair, refinishing, staining, sealing, and protective coatings Demonstrated ability to repair structural and cosmetic wood damage Familiarity with shop safety procedures, dust collection systems, and proper material handling Working Conditions/Essential Job Functions Fluency in English Exposed to extreme temperatures Heavy lifting
