Job Title:
Carpenter Job Description This role involves performing a variety of carpentry tasks in a primarily indoor environment, including cutting and framing lumber, installing doors and trim, and assisting with layout and reference measurements for building projects. You work a consistent daytime schedule and support the safe and accurate preparation and delivery of materials to job sites. Responsibilities Cut timber and lumber to specified dimensions with accuracy and attention to detail. Hold timbers, lumber, and paneling in place to support fastening, cutting, and installation activities. Drill holes in lumber as required for construction and installation tasks. Hold plumb bobs, sighting rods, and other tools to help establish reference points and lines. Assist in laying out foundations, building lines, and anchor bolts according to project specifications. Set hollow metal doors and frames to meet alignment and fit requirements. Install trim and finish carpentry components to achieve a clean, professional appearance. Frame wood structures in accordance with plans and measurements. Establish and verify reference points and lines to guide construction work. Handle materials safely and efficiently, including loading, moving, and staging lumber and components. Operate a forklift and related material-handling equipment when needed, following safety procedures. Support the delivery of materials to job sites and assist with on-site tasks as required. Follow instructions, learn new techniques, and apply feedback to continuously improve skills. Essential Skills Carpentry experience, including cutting, framing, and installation tasks. Ability to accurately read and use a tape measure. Strong willingness to learn and the ability to be highly teachable. Forklift operation experience and comfort with material handling. Experience with finish carpentry, including trim installation. Construction experience in a hands-on environment. Valid driver's license in good standing. Residence within approximately 30 miles of Sleepy Eye. Ability to follow layout instructions and assist in establishing reference points and lines. Additional Skills & Qualifications Knowledge of reading and interpreting blueprints is very helpful. Experience setting hollow metal doors and frames. Familiarity with using plumb bobs, sighting rods, and similar measuring tools. Comfort working both indoors and occasionally on delivery sites. Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing quality workmanship. Why Work Here? Work Environment The work takes place primarily indoors, providing a controlled and consistent environment for carpentry and material preparation. You work a regular Monday through Friday schedule from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with a 30-minute unpaid lunch and two 15-minute paid breaks during the day. Most tasks involve using standard carpentry tools, measuring devices, and material-handling equipment such as forklifts. At times, you assist with delivering materials to job sites, where you may work briefly outdoors or in partially completed structures. The environment emphasizes safety, practical workwear, and readiness for hands-on tasks throughout the shift. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Sleepy Eye, MN. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $17.00 - $22.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
