Job Description

POSITION PURPOSE
Under the direction of the Operations Manager, ensure the efficient, orderly completion of interments, and maintain the cemeteries' building and grounds in keeping with the goals of presenting an orderly, dignified appearance to all visitors, respecting the sacred nature of burial grounds and the teachings of the Catholic Church. Provide related facilities services to St. Mary Church and St. Therese Church.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Perform activities related to interments and entombments, coordinating with contracted grave diggers, vault installers, etc includes physical tasks such as placement and removal of lowering devices, greens, chairs, and planks, digging cremation graves etc. May include use of lifting device to place caskets in mausoleum crypts. Regularly police grounds to remove litter, wilted flowers, etc., and to identify disallowed decorations for possible removal. Empty trash cans weekly, or more frequently if necessary. Maintain good public relations with families, funeral directors, and the wider community. Ensure the safety of visitors to the cemetery. Report accidents, vandalism, etc. to cemetery management. May include attendance at mandated training/education program: May require occasional Saturday morning burial-related work. Other related duties as may be assigned.
SECONDARY DUTIES
May provide groundskeeping services (mowing, plowing, etc.) and other facilities services to St. Mary Church and St. Therese Church.
NOTE:
Snow plowing may require adjustment of work schedule to ensure a safe environment for daily and weekend Mass schedule.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
MINIMUM
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED FOR PLACEMENT IN POSITION
Education:
High school diploma or equivalent preferred. Minimally, the ability to understand and comply with English•language written instructions, equipment manuals, etc. is essential.
Prior experience:
1-3 years of related experience required.
Licenses & Certifications:
Must be at least 18 years of age, possess a valid CT driver's license, and meet the requirements of an "approved driver" under the Fleet Safety Program of the Archdiocese of Hartford.
Specialized training in:
Safe operation of landscaping equipment (tractor, commercial mower, trimmers, etc.).
Other Key Competencies:
Planning/organizing•plans work activities and uses time efficiently. Quality control•demonstrates accuracy and thoroughness and monitors own work to ensure quality.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Heavy work: Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
VISUAL ACUITY REQUIREMENTS
•including color, depth perception, and field of vision The worker is required to have visual acuity to operate motor vehicles or heavy equipment.
WORKING CONDITIONS

The worker is subject to hazards: Includes a variety of physical conditions, such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, moving vehicles, electrical current, working in high places, exposure to high heat or exposure to chemicals.
SCHEDULE
A regular 5-weekday work schedulé, with some Saturday morning hours required for burial-related activities.
