Job Description

The Center Maintenance Technician is responsible for supporting the daily maintenance, safety, and upkeep of assigned Early Years Learning Center(s). This role ensures that facilities remain clean, safe, functional, and in compliance with all applicable standards to provide a high-quality environment for children, staff, and families. Working under the direction of the Executive of Maintenance & Project Completion, this position focuses on routine maintenance, minor repairs, and proactive facility support. The Center Maintenance Technician plays a critical role in maintaining operational excellence at the center level and addressing issues quickly and effectively.
Nature and Scope:
The Center Maintenance Technician reports to the Executive of Maintenance & Project Completion and supports one or more assigned Early Years locations. This role works closely with Center Directors and staff to ensure all maintenance needs are addressed in a timely and efficient manner. The position may also support broader facility initiatives, inspections, and small projects as directed.
Qualifications:
• High school diploma or equivalent required 1-3 years of maintenance, custodial, or general facilities experience preferred Basic knowledge of plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and general building maintenance Ability to complete minor repairs independently and escalate larger issues appropriately Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety and quality Ability to manage time effectively and prioritize tasks Strong communication and teamwork skills Valid Pennsylvania driver's license preferred Must be able to pass required background checks Must be drug-free Duties and Responsibilities
DAILY MAINTENANCE & REPAIRS
Perform routine maintenance and minor repairs across assigned center(s) Address maintenance requests such as light repairs, painting, and equipment fixes Ensure classrooms, restrooms, and common areas are safe, clean, and fully operational Maintain the overall condition and functionality of the facility
RENOVATION & BUILD-OUT SUPPORT
Assist with renovation projects, classroom build-outs, and facility improvement initiatives across assigned center(s) Support demolition preparation, painting, furniture assembly, fixture installation, and setup of new learning spaces Help prepare classrooms and common areas for new enrollments, licensing requirements, and center expansions Assist with project timelines and completion tasks to ensure centers remain operational during renovations Support one-center and multi-center improvement projects that may span days, weeks, or months depending on operational needs Work collaboratively with vendors, contractors, and leadership during renovation and construction activities
FACILITY SAFETY & COMPLIANCE
Monitor facility conditions to ensure safety and compliance with licensing standards Identify, report, and assist in resolving safety hazards or maintenance concerns Support readiness for inspections and audits Ensure playgrounds and equipment are safe and well-maintained
PREVENTATIVE MAINTENANCE SUPPORT
Assist with routine inspections and preventative maintenance activities Help identify potential issues before they become major problems Support basic upkeep of building systems and equipment
CENTER SUPPORT & RESPONSIVENESS
Collaborate with Center Directors and staff to address maintenance needs Escalate complex or large-scale repairs to the Executive of Maintenance & Project Completion Assist with center setup, minor projects, and facility improvements Respond to urgent or unexpected maintenance needs as required
Job Factors:
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs, bend, climb ladders, and perform physical labor Comfortable working indoors and outdoors in varying conditions Strong reliability and responsiveness Detail-oriented with a focus on safety, cleanliness, and quality Ability to work independently with minimal supervision Availability to work nights and weekends as needed is required Ability to respond to urgent or emergency situations outside of standard business hours Will require travel between centers Early Years Child Development Centers is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
