Classified / Non-Exempt Summary To work directly under the direction of the LPN or RN in assisting with medical needs in the building. Essential Duties and Responsibilities To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills and abilities required. Administers emergency first aid and medications to students under the direction of a school nurse. Communicates with students, teachers, counselors, parents, etc. and responds to questions related to students' health. Maintain student health records. Assist school nurses with health screenings. Performs record keeping and clerical functions (e.g. data entry of medical alert status, immunization records, and daily clinical logs.) Assist in specialized health care procedures. Assist other personnel as may be required. Maintains a safe, secure, and healthy work environment by following standards and procedures that comply with school policy. Performs related duties as assigned. Supervisory Duties Supervises students in their care. Qualifications Education/ Experience Certificates/ Licenses/ Registrations Currently licensed to practice in the State of Missouri Current CPR certification CMA, CNA, or LPN preferred Experience considered a plus Skills and Abilities Individual must have the ability to administer first aid/CPR, handle body fluids and waste materials, operate standard office equipment, prepare and maintain accurate records, respond appropriately to medical emergencies, prepare reports, correspondences, and other written materials. Knowledge Individual must have knowledge of emergency first aid/CPR procedures, safety practices and procedures, health standards and procedures, communicable diseases and their precautions. Ability Individual must have the ability to handle emergencies in a clam and effective manner, maintain confidentiality of patient/student files and records; be sensitive to and communicate with students regarding a variety of health needs, adapt to changing work priorities, be attentive to detail, communicate with parents and staff and maintain consistent, punctual and regular attendance. The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling weight of up to 50 pounds, frequent stooping, kneeling and crouching, performed under some hazardous conditions. Attendance Consistent and regular attendance is an essential job function of this position. Lifting Occasional to frequent lifting or carrying up to 50 pounds. Conditions and Environment The work conditions and environment described here are representative of those that an individual will encounter while performing the essential functions of this job. The individual who holds this position will regularly work in an active school environment with many distractions. Occasional exposure to sharp objects and diseases should be expected. Terms of Employment 194 days per school year (includes 5 paid holidays). Salary and work year to be established by the Board.
