Schedule:
Monday•Friday, 9:00 AM•3:00 PM (6 hours/day)
Program Duration:
Up to 12 weeks (summer session) Position Summary The CGS Skills Coach is a frontline member of the Brighter Futures CGS Summer Program team. This role is responsible for delivering billable structured clinical groups to groups of up to 4 youth (1 :4 ratio) in a trauma-informed, non-residential day treatment setting. The Skills Coach facilitates skill-building groups focused on emotion regulation, social skills, problemsolving, mindfulness, daily living skills, and other functional life skills to support DCFS-involved youth with emotional, behavioral, or developmental needs. This position plays a critical role in providing safe, structured, and therapeutic daytime programming while strictly adhering to
DCFS CGS
billing rules, DLBC licensing standards, and Brighter Futures' mission of creating brighter futures for children in foster care. Key Responsibilities Facilitate daily billable structured clinical groups including: Morning Mindfulness & Grounding Group Emotion Regulation & Coping Skills Group (Zones of Regulation) Social Skills & Interpersonal Effectiveness Group Problem-Solving & Executive Functioning Skills Group Positive Identity, Self-Esteem & Life Story Work Group Daily Living & Self-Help Skills Group Provide trauma-informed support, positive behavior reinforcement, and de-escalation in a 1 :4 staff-to-client ratio Implement individualized support strategies and client goals from each youth's service plan Maintain accurate and timely daily documentation required for CGS billing (start/ end times, group content, participant response, etc.) Ensure strict separation of billable CGS hours from non-billable routine and recreational activities Participate in weekly team meetings, supervision, and quality assurance reviews maintain a safe, nurturing, and culturally responsive environment for all participants Report critical incidents, safety concerns, or policy violations immediately per agency and DLBC procedures
Qualifications Required:
High school diploma or GED (Associate's or Bachelor's degree in psychology, social work, education, or related field preferred) Minimum 1 year of experience working with children or youth with emotional, behavioral, or developmental challenges (foster care, day treatment, or residential experience strongly preferred) Must pass DLBC background check and fingerprinting (no exceptions) Current American Red Cross CPR/First Aid certification (or ability to obtain before start date) Reliable transportation and ability to work Monday-Friday 9:00 AM•3:00 PM Obtain and Maintain required auto insurance coverage by the state
Preferred:
Experience facilitating group activities or structured skills groups Knowledge of trauma-informed care, TBRI®, Zones of Regulation, DBT skills, or CBT principles Previous experience in a licensed day treatment or CGS program Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Strong ability to build rapport with youth from hard places while maintaining professional boundaries Excellent verbal and written communication skills Ability to remain calm and use de-escalation techniques during challenging behaviors Commitment to cultural humility and nondiscrimination Strong organizational skills and attention to detail for documentation and billing compliance Team-oriented with a positive, mission-driven attitude Physical & Work Environment Ability to actively engage with youth (sit, stand, walk, kneel, lift up to 25 lbs) Work is performed in an indoor facility setting with occasional community outings Must be comfortable working with youth who may have challenging behavior.
Compensation:
16-18 per hour (commensurate with experience and qualifications)+ potential for future year-round opportunities Training Provided All new CGS Skills Coaches will receive comprehensive training (with additional detail provided during orientation and ongoing supervision) on the following topics: Trauma-informed care and TBRI principles Behavior management, de-escalation, and positive reinforcement techniques CGS program policies, billing rules, and required documentation standards Safety, emergency procedures, and critical incident reporting Suicide prevention and risk screening Medication coordination and nutrition protocols Client rights, grievance procedures, and nondiscrimination practices Person-specific support strategies and individualized service plan implementation DLBC licensing standards and Day Treatment Program Manual compliance American Red Cross CPR/First Aid certification (if not already current)
