Job Description

Job Title:
Chemical Operator Job Description This role is responsible for safely manufacturing chemical blends and products in accordance with customer specifications, while maintaining high standards of product quality and production efficiency. The Chemical Operator runs reactors and associated systems, handles filling, loading, and unloading operations, and accurately documents batch processes in compliance with GMP and OSHA regulations. This position is ideal for individuals with introductory chemical experience who are eager to learn, grow quickly, and build a technical career through on-the-job training. Responsibilities Operate production equipment, including reactors, pumps, and auxiliary systems, while monitoring process conditions and key performance metrics to maintain desired production rates and safe operating conditions. Perform manufacturing activities such as weighing and charging raw materials into vessels and tanks, and transferring products from vessels to storage tanks and other containers. Complete raw material verification processes to ensure that only correct and approved raw materials are charged into production systems. Follow company policies, procedures, standards, and practices to ensure safe, reliable operations and compliance with applicable cGMP requirements. Read, record, and interpret data from instruments, reactors, pumps, and control systems, making necessary adjustments to support efficient and safe operations. Understand key process variables that impact product quality and consistency, and apply this knowledge to control, troubleshoot, and optimize processes. Maintain good housekeeping in all work areas to GMP standards and participate in general cleanup activities. Support organizational goals of zero workplace safety incidents and actively participate in environmental, health, and safety (EHS) programs. Mentor and train new and existing personnel on process operations, sharing knowledge and promoting best practices. Safely operate forklifts, lifts, and hand trucks to move materials and products as needed. Provide technical support and assistance to chemists and engineers during production and process improvement activities. Accurately document data on batch records, graphs, and charts to ensure complete and compliant production records. Assist with inventory management of materials to maintain adequate supplies for ongoing operations. Support the implementation of new chemical engineering processes or production techniques as directed. Comply with all applicable OSHA safety standards and company safety procedures for all work areas. Adhere to all applicable FDA and quality standards in daily work and documentation. Perform related duties and additional tasks as assigned to support production and operational goals. Essential Skills Introductory-level chemical production experience, including exposure to reactors, pumps, and weighing operations. Ability to operate and monitor production equipment and control systems safely and effectively. Basic computer skills, including familiarity with production-related software and systems. Basic knowledge of programmable logic controllers (PLCs). Basic math skills to support weighing, measuring, and process calculations. Strong attendance and punctuality, with a willingness to work 12-hour rotating shifts. Ability to read, record, and interpret data from instruments and process equipment. Attention to detail and accuracy in following procedures and documenting batch records. Effective verbal and written communication skills. Strong reading, listening, and comprehension skills. Demonstrated ability to manage multiple competing priorities in a fast-paced production environment. Ability to interact effectively with diverse functions and individuals to achieve production and quality goals. Solid decision-making and troubleshooting skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks. Customer-focused mindset and commitment to delivering high-quality products. Commitment to working safely and complying with OSHA, FDA, and cGMP requirements. Additional Skills & Qualifications High school diploma or General Education Degree (GED). Forklift experience preferred; on-the-job forklift training is provided and maintained. Prior GMP training preferred; cGMP training is provided as part of the role. Experience in a laboratory or production environment is beneficial. Demonstrated initiative, integrity, optimism, honesty, diligence, stewardship, humility, and focus on shared outcomes. Ability and desire to learn new processes and technologies through technical training. Interest in career growth in a chemical manufacturing environment, with motivation to advance based on merit. Work Environment This position operates in an open-air chemical production environment on a rotating 12-hour shift schedule. The schedule alternates between 36-hour and 48-hour workweeks, with day shifts from 7:30 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. and night shifts from 7:30 p.m. to 8:00 a.m., providing one full week off each month. Training typically lasts 4 to 6 weeks, depending on how quickly the individual progresses and is signed off on tasks, and takes place Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The role involves regular use of production equipment such as reactors, pumps, control systems, forklifts, lifts, and hand trucks, and requires adherence to OSHA, FDA, and cGMP standards. The environment emphasizes safety, technical training, and continuous improvement, with strong support for career development and promotion based on merit and performance. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Piedmont, SC. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $20.00/hr.
