Job Description
Job Summary We are seeking a dynamic and strategic Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to lead our financial operations and drive sustainable growth. In this pivotal role, you will serve as a key member of the senior leadership team and is responsible for the financial health, integrity, and strategic direction of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul
- Long Island.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Accounting & Financial Reporting- Oversee all accounting systems, code structures, and financial report production; direct changes and enhancements as needed.
- Supervise the preparation and issuance of monthly financial statements including balance sheets, statements of activity, budget comparison reports, and reports on restricted and endowed funds, receivables, and payables.
- Ensure organizational compliance with GAAP, nonprofit accounting standards, and all foundation and government funding requirements.
- Oversee payroll processing and ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local regulations.
- Monitor capital expenditures and depreciation schedules; develop expense allocation and cost-tracking methodologies.
- Serve as primary liaison with the external audit firm; lead the annual financial audit process and manage the Finance/Audit Committee through audit reviews and RFP processes.
- Oversee the preparation and timely filing of all tax filings, charitable registrations, and all other required federal and state regulatory submissions.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for legal matters related to consultant agreements; review, negotiate, and maintain contract and agreement files.
- Provide financial data and narrative content for the Society's Annual Report. Cash Management
- Manage all banking relationships and serve as liaison with portfolio managers, money managers, and investment advisors.
- Establish and oversee bank accounts, credit line facilities, and investment vehicles in alignment with organizational policy.
- Authorize and supervise disbursement requests and the disbursement process. Budgeting & Financial Planning
- Lead the annual budget development process and interim financial projection reporting in collaboration with senior leadership.
- Produce budget analyses and executive-level summary reports to support data-driven decision-making.
- Partner with department leaders to monitor and ensure accountability of spending in alignment with approved budgets.
- Supervise budget data entry, preparation, and maintenance. Committees & Governance
- Provide staff support and financial expertise to the Finance/Audit Committee and Executive Committee as needed.
- Serve as a member of the Governance Committee.
- Develop, maintain, and update finance policies and internal control procedures.
- Contribute to organizational policy development as requested by the CEO/Executive Director. Human Resources Oversight
- Oversee the HR Information System (HRIS) and ensure data accuracy and integrity.
- Partner with senior leadership to ensure consistent application and coordination of HR policies across the organization. Information Technology
- Serve as a primary point of contact and organizational liaison for the Society's IT Business Partner.
- Review and approve all IT system and hardware purchases in alignment with organizational needs and budget. Leadership & Staff Development
- Provide direct supervision, mentorship, and professional development support to Finance Department staff.
- Promote cross-training within the Finance team to build departmental resilience and continuity.
- Foster a collaborative, mission-driven work culture aligned with the Society's values.
QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS
- MBA, CPA, and/or Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related business discipline required.
- Minimum of 10 years of progressive financial leadership experience; nonprofit sector experience strongly preferred, with prior senior management responsibility.
- Deep expertise in nonprofit fund accounting and GAAP compliance.
- Proficiency in financial management systems and HRIS platforms.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to present complex financial data clearly to non-financial stakeholders.
- Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel and financial reporting tools.
- Familiarity with Form 990 preparation and nonprofit regulatory filings.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a dynamic, mission-driven environment.

WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- Normal office requirements with long periods of standing and sitting.
- Ability to work at a computer for extended period of time.
- Must be able to frequently walk up and down stairs.
- Must be able to lift more than 25 lbs.
SALARY RANGE
: $110,000- $140,000 annually Compensation commensurate with experience.
