To serve as a member of the Child Study Team in the identification, evaluation, planning, and implementation of appropriate educational programs for students in need of special education services and to consult with teachers, parents and other appropriate personnel in matters involving students' social/emotional functioning and learning. To act as case manager to assigned students and engages in consultation with teachers, parents and other appropriate personnel.Performance Responsibilities:
Overall responsibilities Serves as a member of the Child Study Team in all concomitant activities of that body. Evaluates students with learning and behavioral difficulties. Maintains a battery of appropriate evaluative materials. Performs case managerial duties. Completes reports, forms and memos in a timely manner. Attends all conferences required by the Special Education Code. Consults with other school personnel to help determine the student's eligibility for special education. Assists in the writing of the Individual Education Program (IEP) as well as planning, implementing and monitoring of educational placements for classified students. Confers with teachers, other support personnel and parents regarding techniques, interventions and strategies to facilitate learning and classroom adjustment. Strives to maintain and improve professional knowledge and practice by such means as organization membership, reading professional literature, participation in professional in-service and continuing education programs. Participates in staff meetings and serves on school committees. Maintains a workable professional relationship with other members of the professional and nonprofessional staff and with students, parents and community members. Maintains appropriate Child Study Team records. Consults and assists in placement of students in out-of-district placements. Monitors disciplinary actions that pertain to classified students. Addresses parent and/or teacher concerns regarding educational placement and program. Consults with regular education staff regarding the educational needs of classified students. Assists in writing district policy concerning special education. Provides in-service education for school personnel. Functions as a consultant to teachers of students experiencing learning/behavior difficulties but not referred for formal evaluation. Serves as a resource person to provide information on research and theory in curriculum development and design of research projects. Confers with parents to develop suggestions that will enhance the student's home, school and family adjustment. 23. Complete all necessary documentation and logs for SEMI, if approriate. 24. Performs all other duties and activities as assigned by the Director of Special Education and Related Services.Position Type:
