Childcare Director Designee 1325 West South Jordan Parkway, South Jordan, UT 84095 $16.50 - $20.50 an hour - Full-time $16.50 - $20.50 an hour - Full-time Director Designee/Lead Teacher Position Overview The Director Designee is responsible for providing leadership, training, and operational support to staff while ensuring the smooth and effective operation of the center in the absence of the Owner, Director, or Assistant Director. This role focuses on staff development, center operations, team engagement, and maintaining a positive, supportive workplace culture. Key Responsibilities1. New Staff Training & Onboarding Provide initial onboarding and training for new staff members within the Director Designee's classroom to introduce center expectations, policies, and best practices. Ensure all new employees understand center procedures, safety standards, classroom management strategies, and daily operational expectations prior to transitioning into their assigned classroom. Support the transition process by allowing new staff opportunities to observe classrooms, meet children, and learn the flow and routines of their assigned environment. Serve as a mentor and ongoing resource for new employees to promote confidence, success, and retention. 2. Ongoing Staff Training & Development (Bonus Eligible) Conduct monthly group trainings for all staff focused on curriculum implementation, behavior management, safety procedures, licensing compliance, and professional development. Provide individual follow-up coaching and support sessions to reinforce best practices and encourage continued growth. Maintain organized training documentation and ensure staff complete required development within designated evaluation periods. Collaborate with leadership to identify training needs and opportunities for team improvement. 3. Operational Support & Leadership Serve as Director in Charge when the Owner, Director, or Assistant Director is unavailable.
Responsibilities may include:
Conducting bus runs and ensuring safe transportation procedures are followed. Escorting State Inspectors through the facility and responding to compliance-related questions professionally and accurately. Assisting teachers and staff with classroom support, student behavior concerns, and immediate operational needs. Addressing parent or staff concerns in a professional and timely manner when leadership is unavailable. Supporting daily center operations, including scheduling adjustments, classroom coverage, and maintaining overall organization and efficiency. 4. Center Culture & Staff Engagement Work collaboratively with leadership to foster a positive, engaging, and supportive workplace culture. Participate in monthly leadership meetings to brainstorm and implement staff morale and culture-building initiatives. Coordinate and support activities such as: Staff appreciation gestures including drink runs, treats, and recognition activities. Opportunities for cross-classroom collaboration and relationship building among team members. Incentive and recognition programs that celebrate staff achievements, growth, and contributions to the center. Previous experience working in a licensed childcare center, preschool, or early childhood setting preferred. 5.
Teaching & Childcare Expectations:
CDA (Child Development Associate), Early Childhood Education coursework, or related certification preferred (or a commitment to obtaining certification within the first year of employment). Knowledge of child development and age-appropriate practices. Ability to create and maintain a safe, nurturing, and engaging classroom environment. Strong classroom management and behavior guidance skills. Ability to communicate professionally and positively with children, families, and coworkers. Must be dependable, organized, flexible, and able to work as part of a team. Ability to plan and implement developmentally appropriate activities and curriculum for school age children. CPR/First Aid certification required or willingness to obtain upon hire. Must pass all required background checks and meet state licensing requirements. Ability to lift, bend, sit on the floor, and actively engage with children throughout the day. Strong leadership skills with the ability to mentor and support assistant teachers when needed. Pay:
$16.50 - $20.50 per hour
