Children s Director Opportunity Overview The River Church is a community of believers poised To make a huge impact in their five-mile radius and beyond. For over 23 years, the River Church has been faithfully serving Jesus and reaching people for Christ. They have been active in serving the community and strengthening families in Christ. With the opening of a new worship center in 2027, the potential for ministry and impact is even greater. The River is looking for a dynamic individual who has a passion for Jesus and children. This will be a person who leads well and creates a loving environment for families, not only of believers, but also those who are exploring their faith. This person will join a tremendous team of supportive individuals and together, they will seek to transform this community for Jesus. Position Overview The Children s Director provides spiritual leadership, vision, and oversight for the church s children s ministry (birth through 5th grade). This individual will create a safe, engaging, and Christ-centered environment where children can grow in their faith and families feel supported and connected. This position reports directly to the Executive Pastor and averages 40 hours per week, including Sunday mornings and including office hours Monday through Thursday each week. Key Responsibilities 1. Sunday Morning Leadership & Curriculum Plan and prepare weekly Sunday morning curriculum for children (birth through 5th grade) for all scheduled services. Ensure lessons are biblically sound, age-appropriate, and engaging. Oversee classroom flow and programming each Sunday morning. Provide clear direction and support to classroom volunteers. Ensure each teacher is fully trained to share the gospel with children, is ready and looking for opportunities to lead them to Christ. Coordinate teachers if someone is unable to teach 2. Classroom Preparation Prepare and organize all materials needed for Sunday lessons (crafts, handouts, supplies, activities). Ensure classrooms are fully set up and ready prior to Sunday. Maintain an organized inventory of supplies and curriculum materials. 3. Volunteer Recruitment & Scheduling Recruit, train, and develop children s ministry volunteers. Meet with potential children s ministry volunteers. Schedule volunteers for each classroom in advance. Communicate weekly lesson plans and expectations clearly to volunteers. Foster a positive, encouraging team culture. Develop leaders so that Pastor/Director is able to attend one service each week. 4. Shepherding Meet with volunteers and potential volunteers weekly to develop personal relationships with them and to help shepherd them in their faith. Provide care for volunteers who are going through hard times. Provide bi-annual training seminars for all children s volunteers. 5. Monthly Family & Kids Events Plan and lead one engaging event per month designed for children and families. Coordinate volunteers, materials, and promotion for each event. Create opportunities that help families grow in faith and community together. 6. Vacation Bible School (VBS) Plan, organize, and execute an annual summer Vacation Bible School. Coordinate curriculum selection, volunteer teams, decorations, registration, and promotion. Manage logistics, scheduling, and follow-up communication. Ensure that the gospel is clearly presented to all kids during the Bible teaching time and all children are given the opportunity to accept Christ. 7. Seasonal Programming (Christmas & Easter) Plan and implement engaging children s programming or events for Christmas and Easter. Coordinate volunteers, materials, and creative elements. Support family participation and outreach opportunities during these key seasons. 8. Classroom Care & Safety Coordinate volunteers to clean and sanitize classrooms weekly to maintain a safe and healthy environment. Ensure all safety policies and child-protection procedures are followed. Maintain welcoming, organized, and secure children s spaces. 9. General Church Staff Functions Be involved in the general life of the church, including special activities and church functions. Be involved in a small group at The River Church. Be present at different outreaches and services opportunities at church. Encourage other members of the team with a prayerful, joyful, faith-filled attitude and perspective.
