Choir Director/Organist/Pianist (PT) Archdiocese of Boston - 3.3 Braintree, MA Job Details Part-time 2 hours ago Qualifications Music Volunteer management Mid-level Musical instruments Intellectual property law Purchasing Budgeting Training Volunteer recruitment Full Job Description The Avon-Holbrook Collaborative of St. Michael and Saint Joseph Parishes in Massachusetts is seeking an accomplished music leader with a love for the Roman Catholic liturgy and sacred music from traditional to contemporary. This position is part time with a per-service stipend, plus separate compensation for weddings and funerals.
Principal Responsibilities:
Understand the role that music plays in the Catholic liturgy and in supporting worship and faith formation Accompany cantor and/or choirs at 4 weekend Masses across 2 sites, as well as for other liturgies including Christmas, Paschal Triduum, First Holy Communion, Confirmation and Holy Days Accompany parish cantors for all weddings and funerals (additional stipend) Collaborate with existing cantor/leadership team and other ministry leaders as appropriate to select music for liturgies Assist in the recruitment and training of volunteer choir members, instrumentalists, and cantors Direct weekly choir rehearsals and additional rehearsals as needed for special liturgies Purchase all necessary music and supplies with the pastor's approval and within budget guidelines Oversee compliance with copyright laws and licensing procedures Recommend maintenance of all parish instruments Secure substitute accompanists when necessary to cover vacation, illness, or schedule conflicts between the parishes Interact with parishioners, being present at collaborative events Participate in Collaborative and Diocesan meetings (infrequent)
Travel Requirements:
Travel by car between 2 parish locations (approximately 3.5 miles) Infrequent travel by car may be required to attend Diocesan or other events
Education and Experience Preferred:
Degree in Music or Liturgy preferred Experience in a parish setting, working with volunteers and as part of a team Proficiency as an organist, pianist and choral director; able to play to a high professional standard and maintain the standard through regular practice and continuing education Knowledge of the Church's tradition of sacred music and liturgy including current church documents Commitment to upholding the faith, morals, and practices of the Roman Catholic Church, with a particular emphasis on respect for the dignity of all individuals Contact Anne Andrea at with questions or to arrange an nterview.
