Job Description

Overview Join our vibrant faith community as a Church Music Director, where you will inspire and lead our congregation through the power of music and worship. This dynamic role offers an exciting opportunity to shape the spiritual experience by selecting, rehearsing, and conducting musical elements that uplift and unify our members. As a key spiritual leader, you will foster a welcoming environment that encourages participation, growth, and a shared sense of purpose through music. Your energetic leadership will help deepen the congregation's connection to faith and community. Responsibilities Worship Planning
  • Select and coordinate music for weekly worship services in consultation with the Pastor.
  • Ensure that all music selections align with the Pastor's message, sermon theme, and designated Scripture readings.
  • Participate in worship planning meetings as requested. Special Music
  • Arrange for special music as appropriate throughout the church year (e.g., holidays, revival services, special programs, guest musicians).
  • Coordinate with soloists, instrumentalists, ensembles, or guest musicians as needed.
  • Oversee rehearsals necessary to ensure quality and appropriateness of worship music. Leadership and Administration
  • Maintain the church's music library and equipment in good order.
  • Provide advance notice of music selections for worship bulletins and projections.
  • Comply with all Safe Sanctuary policies and church guidelines.
Professional Conduct The Music Director shall conduct themselves in a manner consistent with the mission, doctrine, and values of The United Methodist Church and this local congregation. Compensation The Music Director shall receive a competitive salary payable in accordance with the Church's regular payroll schedule. Any additional compensation (such as for weddings, funerals, or special services) shall be determined according to established church policy. Work Schedule The Music Director is expected to be present for: Weekly worship services Scheduled rehearsals Special services as agreed upon (e.g., Christmas Eve, Holy Week services, Easter, etc.) Worship planning meetings as requested This is a ¼ time position, approximately 10 hours per week. Qualifications and Experience Practicing Christian including a personal relationship with Jesus Christ and practices a lifestyle that upholds Christian values. Minimum of two years of experience in a church music leadership position. Proven experience in teaching or mentoring musicians of various skill levels within a church or community setting. Demonstrated talent in singing and playing piano and/or organ. Demonstrated leadership skills in managing musical teams, coordinating rehearsals, and inspiring others through music. Strong communication skills to articulate musical concepts clearly and foster collaborative relationships within the church community. Knowledge of diverse musical styles suitable for worship services, including traditional hymns, contemporary Christian music, and gospel genres. Ability to adapt quickly to changing service needs while maintaining high standards of musical excellence. Preferred Qualifications Bachelor's Degree in a music related field. Prior experience leading musical groups such as a church choir. Prior experience in accompanying a church congregation by playing traditional hymns and praise music. Strong communication skills to articulate musical concepts clearly and foster collaborative relationships within the church community. Prior experience working with church leadership to plan worship services and special events is highly desirable.
