Job Description

Job Title:
Civil Engineer (PE) - Field Inspections & Quality Control Overview This role offers an opportunity for an experienced Civil Engineer to lead field-based inspections and quality control efforts on construction projects throughout New York City. You will travel to job sites across all five boroughs, conduct detailed inspections, prepare clear and comprehensive reports, and collaborate closely with contractors, architects, and project teams. This position is well suited for a licensed Professional Engineer with a civil or structural background who enjoys working in the field, resolving on-site issues, and contributing directly to successful project delivery. Key Responsibilities
  • Travel regularly to active construction sites throughout all five boroughs of New York City.
  • Perform field inspections and complete accurate inspection reports remotely in a timely manner.
  • Prepare detailed field reports, inspection logs, and photographic documentation that clearly capture site conditions and findings.
  • Submit inspection results and supporting documentation to clients and internal teams, ensuring clarity and compliance with project requirements.
  • Perform TPP inspections, with full training and support provided by the company.
  • Monitor construction activities for quality control, including concrete testing, structural inspections, and verification of materials used on site.
  • Review permits, drawings, and specifications to confirm construction activities align with approved plans and field conditions.
  • Identify on-site issues or discrepancies and recommend appropriate corrective actions.
  • Coordinate with contractors, architects, and project managers to resolve field issues efficiently.
  • Collaborate with project stakeholders to support schedules, quality standards, and successful project execution.
  • Maintain organized records of inspections, test results, and communications for documentation and compliance purposes. Required Skills & Qualifications
  • Licensed Professional Engineer (PE).
  • Civil or structural engineering background with a strong understanding of construction practices and building systems.
  • 5+ years of professional engineering experience, preferably in field inspections, construction oversight, or structural assessments.
  • Strong ability to perform detailed field inspections and accurately document conditions through written reports and photographs.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to recommend practical, field-appropriate solutions.
  • Strong communication skills for interaction with clients, contractors, architects, and internal teams.
  • Ability to manage multiple site visits and reporting responsibilities while meeting deadlines.
  • Comfortable working independently in the field across multiple NYC locations. Preferred Qualifications
  • ACI certification.
  • NICET certification.
  • Experience with concrete testing, structural inspections, and materials verification.
  • Familiarity with permit reviews, engineering drawings, and technical specifications.
  • Ability to adapt to changing site conditions and project schedules.
  • Interest in long-term professional growth within a large national organization offering clear advancement opportunities.
Work Environment This is a field-based position with typical hours from 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM, with flexibility as needed for field reporting. The role is capped at 40 hours per week and converts to a salaried position upon full placement. You will not work in a traditional office setting and will instead travel throughout New York City to active construction sites. Work includes on-site inspections, monitoring construction activities, and coordination with project stakeholders. Company-provided tools and systems are used for remote reporting and documentation. The organization is part of a large national firm (approximately 46,000 employees) offering four weeks of paid time off for new employees, increasing to six weeks with tenure, along with strong professional development and career advancement opportunities. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Farmingdale, NY. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $62.50 - $76.92/hr.
