Job Description

The Co-Manager assists the Store Manager in overseeing the daily operations of the store, ensuring excellent customer service, efficient merchandising, proper staffing, inventory control, and compliance with company policies and safety standards. This position plays a key leadership role in supervising employees, maintaining store conditions, and supporting overall store profitability and operational success. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Assist with the hiring, training, coaching, scheduling, evaluation, discipline, and development of store employees. Provide leadership and direction to department personnel to ensure efficient store operations and high levels of customer service. Develop and maintain weekly labor schedules in coordination with the Store Manager. Assist in planning and executing merchandising programs, promotional displays, endcaps, and weekly advertisements. Monitor inventory levels and oversee ordering processes to minimize out-of-stocks while maintaining appropriate inventory turns. Allocate shelf space based on product movement, sales trends, and profitability. Greet customers and professionally handle customer questions, concerns, complaints, and special requests. Maintain awareness of store security issues including shoplifting, vendor receiving discrepancies, and internal theft prevention. Supervise the receiving process including unloading trucks, verifying deliveries, checking for shortages or damages, and organizing merchandise for stocking. Oversee proper stocking, rotation, facing, and merchandising of products throughout the store. Ensure the cleanliness and organization of the sales floor, stockroom, restrooms, parking lot, carts, and employee work areas. Monitor and enforce company safety procedures and sanitation standards. Ensure broken containers, spills, trash, and packing materials are removed immediately from customer and employee areas. Supervise the safe operation of store equipment including pallet jacks, forklifts, balers, compactors, and floor cleaning equipment. Assist with inventory counts, product pricing, shelf labeling, and signage updates. Oversee the handling and processing of damaged, unsalable, and returnable merchandise. Conduct competitor price checks and monitor market pricing trends as directed. Communicate operational concerns, merchandising opportunities, staffing needs, and recommendations to the Store Manager. Perform additional duties as assigned to support store operations during peak business periods or employee absences. QualificationsRequired Qualifications Previous retail grocery management or supervisory experience. Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills. Ability to supervise and motivate employees in a fast-paced environment. Excellent customer service and problem-solving abilities. Basic math and computer skills. Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English. Knowledge of merchandising, inventory control, and store operations. Ability to work flexible schedules including evenings, weekends, and holidays. Ability to safely operate store equipment or learn operational procedures. Preferred Qualifications High school diploma or GED required; college coursework in business or retail management preferred. Prior experience in grocery store operations and merchandising. Experience with scheduling, inventory systems, and employee training. Forklift or pallet jack experience preferred. Physical Requirements Ability to stand, walk, bend, lift, and stock merchandise for extended periods. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds regularly and occasionally up to 75 pounds. Ability to work in varying temperatures including coolers and freezers. Ability to safely use ladders, pallet jacks, balers, and other store equipment. Work Environment This position requires work in a retail grocery environment with exposure to varying temperatures, noise levels, cleaning chemicals, and heavy customer traffic. Safety Requirements Follow all company safety, sanitation, and operational procedures. Maintain a safe working environment for employees and customers. Report unsafe conditions or hazards immediately to management. Employees must remain drug and alcohol free while on duty. Reporting Structure This position reports directly to the Store Manager and may supervise department managers and store personnel as assigned.
