Work Schedule TBD Sensitive Position No Job Description Mountain Gateway Community College ( MGCC ) is a two-year public institution of higher education and one of 23 community colleges in Virginia. The college is supported by the Commonwealth of Virginia; the counties of Alleghany, Bath, Botetourt (northern portion) and Rockbridge; the cities of Buena Vista, Covington, and Lexington; and the town of Clifton Forge. Mountain Gateway Community College is seeking a qualified and dedicated Adjunct Instructor in Diesel Technology to join our team. This position offers an excellent opportunity to share your real-world experience and technical expertise with students pursuing careers in the diesel and heavy equipment industries. The Diesel Adjunct Instructor will be responsible for teaching courses in Diesel Technology, which may include, but are not limited to: Diesel Engine Systems Hydraulics and Pneumatics Air Brake Systems Heavy-Duty Suspension and Service Instruction may occur in traditional classroom settings, hybrid, or online formats. The ideal candidate will be student-focused, flexible, and committed to fostering an inclusive learning environment. Key Responsibilities Deliver engaging instruction aligned with course outcomes and program standards Relate basic principles of diesel technology to students with diverse educational and occupational backgrounds Incorporate instructional technology effectively into coursework Evaluate student progress and provide constructive feedback Maintain industry credentials and participate in professional development as required Special Assignments May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor. KSA's/Required Qualifications Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA's) Strong knowledge of major concepts, theories, and subject matter in Diesel Technology Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (oral and written) Effective analytical and problem-solving skills Ability to explain complex technical concepts in practical, relatable terms Required Qualifications Minimum of five (5) years of full-time, related occupational experience Associate's degree in the teaching field OR a combination of education, certifications, and substantial experience in the occupational field Two active, unexpired ASE certifications One certification must be in electrical systems The other must be in the subject matter being taught All academic degrees must be from regionally accredited institutions Applicants without an associate's degree in the field must demonstrate additional, relevant work experience
Note:
Required ASE certifications must be current at the time of hire and maintained throughout employment.
