Perform field inspections for larval mosquito production within the coastal wetlands, impoundments and islands within the Indian River Lagoon and apply control methods as necessary. Field identifies typically encountered mosquito larvae and adults to genus, accurately collecting, logging, reporting findings, and maintaining inspection trails. Essential Functions (without accommodations) The essential functions listed are intended to be representative of the tasks performed within this position. The omission of a specific function does not preclude the District from assigning duties not listed herein if such duties are logical assignments for the position. Perform field inspections at predetermined locations within assigned routes to identify presence of mosquitoes, identify problem species, determine appropriate treatment methods, and apply approved control measures. Record and report findings within the District database and communicate observation to the supervisor. Apply mosquito control pesticides to identified areas of mosquito production in accordance with product labeling requirements and District protocols. Responsible for wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), following District safety policies and procedures, and complying with all applicable local, state and federal regulations. Inspect and record rainfall amounts, culvert status, impoundment water levels, and tide levels. Record inspection and treatment data utilizing District-assigned equipment and report findings to the supervisor in accordance with established procedures. Report malfunctioning data collection equipment to the supervisor. Maintain inspection trails and bridges within assigned routes to ensure safe access and suitable walking or driving conditions. Duties may require the use of a machete and chainsaw. Assist with the maintenance of additional routes when requested and report unsafe trail conditions requiring repair or maintenance to the supervisor. Maintain District-assigned equipment by routinely inspecting trucks, trailers, ATVs and/or watercraft; document findings; and reporting operational or maintenance issues to the Shop. Ensure truck bed remain clean; all containers are properly labeled and secured; applicable labels and Safety Data Sheets (SDS) are readily accessible; and hand cans and related equipment remain in proper working condition. Follow established procedures for charging and storing District-assigned computer and hardware equipment. Serve as a ULV driver, operating mosquito control ground adulticiding equipment, in addition to regularly assigned duties, for a minimum of three years following successful completion of required training and certification requirements. Perform related duties and tasks from other job classifications as deemed necessary to support the District's operational needs and functions. Typical Requirements Education/Experience High school diploma, or Graduate Equivalency Diploma (GED). Coastal Inspector II requires three years of experience in mosquito control, mastering the roles and responsibilities of the position without direct supervision and oversight, along with satisfactory performance evaluations. Licenses and Certifications Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid Public Health Pest Control license from the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services within six months of employment. Must be maintained through employment. Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid Florida Driver's License. Must be maintained through employment. Must be insurable with the District's insurance carrier. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Ability to learn mosquito biology, including behavior, life cycle, habitats and identification of typically encountered mosquito larvae and adults to Knowledge of standard equipment, tools, techniques and procedures used in an integrated mosquito control program. Knowledge of and proficiency in computer data entry and database management. Knowledge of state, federal and local laws governing mosquito control, pesticide application, and chemical storage, including applicable safety rules, regulations, and precautions necessary to prevent accidents. Ability to read maps and interpret aerial photographs to locate specified areas and Ability to make detailed field observations and accurately record relevant data utilizing proprietary software programs; maintain detailed and accurate records in both digital and hard-copy formats; and accurately enter information into databases. Ability to effectively interact and communicate with the public and District staff; prepare and communicate detailed reports and observations; follow detailed verbal and written instructions; and read and understand chemical label instructions written in Ability to operate and routinely maintain a 4-wheel drive vehicle with associated trailer, all-terrain vehicle (ATV), and/or motorized watercraft. Ability to safely drive and back a truck and trailer in rough terrain conditions. Physical strength and agility necessary to work outside, occasionally under adverse weather conditions, including the ability to operate an ATV or boat for extended periods; pull spray hoses through rough terrain; and carry backpack application equipment. Able to safely operate spraying equipment with the manual dexterity necessary to manipulate small equipment and tools while maintaining proper pesticide application dosages across a variety of habitats. Possession of basic swimming and water safety skills necessary to address hazards associated with aquatic environments and activities. Ability to remain aware of environmental surroundings, hear heavy equipment warning signals, visually inspect surrounding areas for hazards, and avoid potentially dangerous wildlife. Ability to perform tasks with limited Work flexible hours when necessary, including nights, weekends, and holidays. Ability to attend occasional out-of-town meetings, training sessions, classes, and other work-related events, including overnight travel when required.Work Environment/Physical Requirements:

Heavy physical activity is required on a regular basis including lifting up to 50 pounds, reaching and pulling with arms, stooping, kneeling and bending frequently and walking for long distances and climbing over and around natural obstacles. Excellent vision, both close and distance, is frequently required.Work Environment:
This position involves work in both inside and outside environmental conditions and may encounter wildlife, noise, vibration, proximity to moving parts, working in high places, exposure to chemicals, fumes, odors, and oils and may be required to wear a respirator. The work environment varies but includes warehouses, office buildings, vehicles, mangroves, and fields. Regular exposure to all types of weather is required as the position is required to work outside, exposed to sun, rain, mud, and insects. Frequent local travel is required. Noise level is usually low but occasional exposure to moderate noise levels when around pony motors.
