Job Description
Position Summary We are seeking a certified NACE Coating Inspector Level 3 (or
AMPP CIP
Level 3) to serve as the senior coatings QA/QC representative on an industrial power plant project in Cayuga, IN. The inspector will be the on-site technical authority for surface preparation, coating application, and system performance across structural steel, piping, tanks, and containment areas. This is a full-time role with per diem and travel provided; the successful candidate will be based on-site in Cayuga for the duration of the assignment. Key Responsibilities Serve as the senior coatings inspector and technical point of contact for the client, general contractor, and applicator. Review and enforce project coating specifications, PQPs, ITPs, and manufacturer data sheets. Perform and document surface preparation inspections perSSPC/NACE
standards (SSPC-SP 1, SP 5, SP 6, SP 10, SP 11, as applicable), including ambient condition readings, surface profile (Testex tape, depth gauge), and cleanliness (ISO 8502 soluble salts, dust tape). Inspect coating application for WFT/DFT, holidays, pinholes, and cure; perform adhesion testing (ASTMD3359, D4541
) as specified. Maintain calibrated inspection instruments (sling psychrometer, surface thermometer, DFT gauges, holiday detector, etc.) and daily calibration logs. Prepare Daily Inspection Reports (DIRs), non-conformance reports (NCRs), and turnover documentation. Mentor and oversee NACE Level 1 / Level 2 inspectors assigned to the project. Interface with owner representatives, EPCs, and applicators to resolve technical issues in the field. Enforce site safety requirements and follow all client, OSHA, and Citex HSE protocols. Required Qualifications Active NACE Coating Inspector Level 3 (CIP 3) orAMPP CIP
Level 3 certification. Minimum 5 years of coating inspection experience on industrial projects; power generation, refining, or petrochemical experience strongly preferred. Demonstrated experience with high-performance coating systems — epoxies, polyurethanes, zinc-rich primers, thermal spray metalizing (TSM), and tank linings. Working knowledge of SSPC, NACE/AMPP, ASTM, and ISO coatings standards. Proficiency with standard inspection instruments and digital report writing. OSHA 10 (preferred) Valid U.S. driver's license and ability to pass site-specific drug screening and background checks. Ability to climb scaffold/ladders, work at heights, wear full PPE (including respirator), and perform physical field inspections in plant environments. Preferred Qualifications AMPP Protective Coating Specialist (PCS) orSSPC PCI / C3 / C7. NACE
Concrete Coating Inspector (CCI). Prior experience at coal, gas, or nuclear generating stations. Familiarity with FGD, scrubber, tank, and piping coating systems. NDT Level II (VT, MT, or UT) is a plus. Compensation & Benefits Competitive salary commensurate with experience. Per diem and lodging provided for on-site assignment in Cayuga, IN.
