Job Description

Under general supervision of the City Manager; Ensures compliance with applicable City Ordinances and State Health and Safety Codes and other federal and state regulations. Conducts inspections of properties within the city to determine if violations of City codes exist with specific reference to ordinances.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Enforces compliance with City regulations and ordinances including those pertaining to zoning, land use, nuisance, housing, building, health and safety, graffiti, junk cars, litter, water waste and other matters of public concern. Inspects property, buildings and site construction within Karnes City for compliance with codes, City Ordinances and laws. Receives and responds to citizen inquiries and complaints concerning alleged code violations. Responds to requests and collaborates with other departments or agencies for case resolution. Reviews and approves all building permits, including HVAC, plumbing and gas. Issues all city licenses for plumbers, irrigators and businesses. Maintains knowledge of regulatory codes and ordinances, reviews and updates as necessary. Maintains maps of city property and any additional land given to the city. Communicates with contractors and consultants to resolve contract/agreement issues and monitors compliance. Performs other duties, tasks and projects as assigned.
Qualifications:
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
High school diploma or equivalent is required 5+ years experience in code compliance Texas Drivers License Texas Registered Code Enforcement Officer Certification or the ability to obtain certification within one (1) year of hire.
