Job Description

If you answered yes to both of these questions, Service 1 Federal Credit Union may have an opportunity for you! Service 1 Federal Credit Union is seeking an experienced, knowledgeable and motivated Collection Manager. The Collection Manager will be responsible for managing collection accounts and overseeing the collection department while ensuring that the collection policies and procedures best serve the credit union and its members. Applicants should possess strong leadership skills, empathetic communication skills, and attention to detail.
Essential functions include:
  • Ensure that credit and collection policies, procedures, practices and documentation meet Federal and State guidelines.
  • Monitor and supervise the department workload to ensure smooth and efficient flow of work. Ensure courteous, professional and considerate communication with members at all times.
  • Monitor effective control procedures for negative and delinquent accounts.
  • Regularly communicate and monitor the adherence to procedures to protect the credit union's interests while utilizing collection techniques to resolve issues quickly and positively.
  • Review and monitor accounts that exceed routine collection procedures. Handle complex situations and resolve complex escalated member issues.
  • Monitor payments for delinquent loans and negative checking accounts. Follow-up on delinquent, high-balance and overdue accounts ensuring a professional interface with members.
  • Review all invoices from attorneys and other collection vendors to ensure accuracy and timely payment.
  • Authorize legal proceedings. Review default notices/letters, surrender & intent to proceed notices, bankruptcy procedures, foreclosure notices, etc. for accuracy and completeness.
  • Review all accounts that will be recommended for write-off and documented as uncollectable. Determine if future recoveries will be possible and document status updates throughout the process.
  • Determine when loan collateral should be repossessed, serve as a liaison with attorney, collection agencies, repossession agencies and auction facilities throughout the repossession process.
  • Determine when to compromise and settle balances and when to initiate foreclosure or court proceedings.
  • File claims, attend hearings and coordinate with trustees for all bankruptcy filings.
  • Coach, mentor and evaluate the job performance of the collection team to ensure quality work and service to members.
  • Perform other duties as needed.
Education and Experience Requirements:
High school diploma or equivalent Minimum of 3-5 years of work-related collection experience. Collection experience should include knowledge and understanding of intermediate debt collection processes and procedures, laws and regulations and collection techniques in a financial institution environment Minimum of 2 years of supervisory experience (preferred)
