Job Description
College Counselor / Teacher Horizon Prep - Schools of Logic & Rhetoric Reports to: Principal Position Summary Horizon Prep is seeking a College Counselor / Teacher who is passionate about Christ-centered education, student discipleship, and postsecondary preparation. Under the direction of the site administrator, this role provides comprehensive college counseling services for students and families while also fulfilling assigned teaching responsibilities. The ideal candidate will partner with students academically, spiritually, and relationally to help them discern and pursue God's calling for life beyond high school. Primary Responsibilities College Counseling & Student Support Provide individualized college counseling to students and families in grades 8-12, including academic planning, college exploration, applications, and postsecondary decision-making Develop, monitor, and adjust four-year academic plans in collaboration with students, families, and administration Guide students through college applications, essays, recommendations, transcripts, testing, and deadlines Coordinate standardized testing support (PSAT, AP exams) and submit accommodation requests as needed Plan and facilitate college-related programming, including college visits, application workshops, parent training nights, and College Week activities Serve as liaison between Horizon Prep and colleges, universities, and postsecondary institutions Maintain accurate, confidential student records and stay current on college admissions trends and requirements Teaching Responsibilities Teach assigned subject areas using Horizon Prep's adopted curriculum Plan and deliver engaging, rigorous instruction that meets the needs of diverse learners Maintain accurate academic and behavioral records using FACTS and Canvas Communicate regularly with families regarding student progress and expectations Collaborate with faculty and staff to support student growth and academic excellence Community & Professional Responsibilities Participate in school events, meetings, committees, devotions, and parent nights Support school-wide initiatives, accreditation, and curriculum development Serve as a mentor and role model, demonstrating a consistent Christian walk Uphold professionalism, confidentiality, and ethical standards Desired Qualifications Clear, professing Christian faith with agreement to Horizon Christian Fellowship's mission and Statement of Faith Bachelor's degree required (education, counseling, psychology, or related field preferred) Experience in secondary education, college counseling, academic advising, or student services preferred Knowledge of college admissions processes, testing, and postsecondary pathways Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills Ability to counsel students and families with wisdom, grace, and discretion California teaching or counseling credential preferred but not required Familiarity with educational technology and college planning platforms (e.g., Naviance) a plus Personal Qualifications Servant-hearted, collaborative, and student-focused Committed to discipleship and mentoring students academically and spiritually Mature Christian of good character and professional integrity Duties and responsibilities may be modified as needed to support the mission and operations of Horizon Prep.
