POSITION SUMMARY
The College of Education (COE) Undergraduate Program at North Greenville University invites applications for the position of part-time Undergraduate Mentor for Early Childhood and Elementary teacher candidates. Successful applicants will hold a public-school teaching certification in South Carolina (Early Childhood or Elementary Education) and be available during regular school hours to mentor students during their field and internship experiences. North Greenville University is a teaching university affiliated with the South Carolina Baptist Convention. North Greenville University employees are orthodox Christians who have a strong personal faith in Jesus Christ, are role models in their piety and ethics, maintain active membership in an evangelical congregation, and mentor students academically and spiritually. All employees of NGU are required to abstain from illegal drugs and beverage alcohol. Review of applications will begin immediately and will continue until the position is filled.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Observe Early Childhood and Elementary teacher candidates in their school placements in public schools. Hold meetings with Early Childhood and Elementary teacher candidates before and/or after internship experiences. Periodically participate in meetings with the COE faculty. Affirm an understanding of, and willingness not to teach contrary to, the Baptist Faith & Message 2000. Affirm understanding of, and willingness not to teach contrary to, the University's Statement on Human Flourishing. Agree to abide by the employee and faculty handbooks, including community standards agreements.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Visual Abilities:
Read reports, complete observations/accompanying forms, and use a computer.
Hearing:
Hear well enough to communicate with co-workers and students. Dexterity, grasping, feeling, writing, typing, and using the telephone, copier, and computer.
Mobility:
Open files and operate office machines; move between departments and attend meetings across campus.
Talking:
Frequently convey detailed or important instructions and ideas accurately, loudly, or quickly.
Cognitive/Emotional:
Ability to critically think and concentrate. Must be able to respond quickly to changes in conditions 75 to 100% of the time.
WORKING RELATIONSHIPS
: This opportunity is a part-time position in the COE Undergraduate Program (traditional program). Early Childhood and Elementary teacher candidates first report to the Internship/Field Experience Coordinator who reports to the Associate Dean of the COE Undergraduate Program, who then reports to the Dean of the College of Education.
WORK SCHEDULE
: The work schedule will depend on the following: the number of Early Childhood and Elementary teacher candidates assigned to the mentor; the location of the schools they are assigned to; and the number of required meetings the mentor will have with each assigned student.
TRAVEL:
A mentor will be expected to travel during regular school hours to meet with assigned Early Childhood and Elementary teacher candidates. Candidates are placed in various public schools around Greenville, Pickens, Anderson, and Spartanburg. S/he will be required to follow any other instructions and to perform any other duties as requested by his or her supervisor. SC Teaching Certification in Early Childhood or Elementary Education, current. Verifiable prior classroom teaching experience in Early Childhood and/or Elementary settings. Understand and comply with FERPA regulations. Must support NGU's mission statement on Human Flourishing and core values and be committed to a Christian lifestyle that demonstrates character in keeping with a biblical model.
