Community Support Specialist (Full-Time) 435 East Main Street, Ansonia, CT - Ansonia, CT 06401 Apply Overview Position Type Full Time Job Shift Day Education Level High School Category Nonprofit - Social Services Apply Community Support Specialist (Full-Time) BHcare is seeking a Community Support Specialist to join our team in our Ansonia Adult Outpatient Clinic! This role is all about helping clients build independence and achieve their goals through skill-building, motivational support, and connection to community resources. If you're passionate about making a difference in the lives of others, this could be the opportunity for you. This is full-time position, 37.5 hours per week Monday-Friday from 9am-5pm, with one day either Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday from 11am-7pm.
What You'll Do:
  • Provide individual and group sessions that promote life skills, recovery, education, employment readiness, and community involvement.
  • Conduct functional assessments and develop person-centered recovery plans with clear, achievable goals.
  • Deliver stage-wise interventions using the psychiatric rehabilitation skill-building model.
  • Support young adults with daily living skills, health and wellness education, and self-advocacy.
  • Provide crisis intervention, outreach, and ongoing support in both individual and group settings.
  • Help clients connect with medical, psychiatric, and community appointments.
  • Educate and collaborate with families, significant others, and community members to support recovery goals.
  • Provide limited transportation while helping clients build their own transportation independence.
  • Maintain accurate clinical records, progress notes, and recovery plans in compliance with agency standards.

  • A compassionate, reliable professional who wants to empower young adults toward independence.
  • Strong communication, problem-solving, and teamwork skills.
  • Experience in human services, behavioral health, or rehabilitation strongly preferred.
  • Familiarity with recovery-oriented approaches and motivational interviewing is a plus.
  • Valid driver's license and using personal vehicle required.

Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree preferred. In lieu of Bachelor's degree, Associates degree or College coursework equivalent (2 years) and 2 years work exp in behavioral health field OR high school diploma and minimum of 4 years of experience in the behavioral health field required. RSS certification, mental health certification or related and acceptable training preferred. Ability to complete training as may be required for position and program assigned. Knowledge of Psychiatric Rehabilitation is desirable. Must have and maintain a valid driver's license. Must maintain an acceptable driving record and be insurable at a reasonable rate under the Organization's auto insurance plan. Must be proficient in Microsoft 365.
