POSITION
Competency-Based Education Course Developer•Liberal Arts Division (Academic Affairs): Academic Affairs; Haverhill Campus; up to 8 hours per week
SUMMARY:
We are seeking course developers to design and build online, competency-based courses in our Liberal Arts division at Northern Essex Community College (NECC). Developers will create competency-based master courses for the Liberal Arts courses listed below, adhering to current course descriptions and ensuring alignment with departmental student learning outcomes, the technical requirements for online courses, and the pedagogical practices that guide competency-based education at NECC. The following existing courses need to be adapted for online, competency-based delivery: COM 111 Public Speaking ENG 101 English Composition 1 ENG 102 English Composition 2 SOC 101 Introduction to Sociology Please note: Course developers may apply separately to future adjunct faculty postings to teach these courses.

Assistant Vice President of Academic Affairs
RESPONSIBILITIES
Complete required training for designing and teaching online, competency-based courses. Develop course syllabus, competency map, credit hour equivalencies chart, and course pace chart. Design the complete course shell in Brightspace, NECC's learning management system. Create instructional materials, practice activities, and final assessments aligned to NECC's competency-based model, to include competency-based grading rubrics and a complete gradebook. Ensure accessibility for all aspects of the course. Meet with the Academic Innovations Program Manager as needed or required to complete the course design process.
Requirements:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Master's degree in related field Experience teaching in a related discipline at the college level Experience using technology in instruction and assessment
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
College level teaching experience Experience with online and hybrid teaching and experiential learning Experience using Brightspace, NECC's learning management system

PAYMENT:
$3,600 to be paid in two installments of $1,800 upon completion of each set of deliverables, non-benefited position By June 15: Complete training and develop course syllabus, competency map, credit hour equivalencies, and course pace chart; documents must pass a technical review from NECC's instructional design team. By August 15: Complete course design in the learning management system; course must pass a technical review
ANTICIPATED START DATE
Training to begin May 2026.
