Santiam Canyon is located in the beautiful foothills of the Cascade Mountain Range and we proudly serve the communities of Mill City, Gates, Detroit, Idanha and surrounding areas. Located close to Salem and other larger towns, Santiam Junior/Senior High School is an ideal location to teach and collaborate with educational professionals helping students achieve their limitless potential. We are looking for an enthusiastic team player who can stand together with us as we help our students find their path to success. Santiam Junior/Senior High School is seeking a visionary educator to lead our CTE Construction Program. This program is designed to bridge the gap between traditional "Shop" and modern industrial technology. A successful candidate will utilize existing resources to develop a multi-level curriculum that guides students from foundational material science to advanced construction skills as we prepare our students for the next generation of Oregon's skilled workforce. Successful applicants should have the following skills:Technical Expertise:
Significant experience working with both wood and metal as manufacturing mediums.Certification:
Must hold (or be eligible for) an Oregon CTE Teaching License through the Oregon Teacher Standards & Practices Commission and the Oregon Department of Education. Continuing education may be required. A "Builder"Mindset:
Ability to adapt and grow a program over time, making creative use of existing shop resources while planning for future expansion.Community Minded:

Santiam operates on a 4 day school week and teacher contracts are for 174 work days.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Essential duties of this position include the following. Employees in this position perform some or all of the following tasks. Other related duties may be assigned. Follows and maintains knowledge of all District policies and procedures. Develops and maintains a classroom environment conducive to effective learning. Plans a program of study that meets learning standards and the individual needs, interests and abilities of students. Plans and supervises purposeful assignments. Teach occupational knowledge and skills in the areas of safety, machine processes, metal fabrication, welding, heat treating, cutting, communications and career preparation. Match activities and materials to individual and group skills and needs. Uses a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media, consistent with the needs and capabilities of the individuals or student groups involved. Assesses, keeps track of, and provides feedback promptly and often to students on their progress and assignments. Uses a grading system that is consistent, fair, and supportable. Tests and evaluates students' abilities and progress. Have knowledge of industry standards and testing requirements and the implementation of such tests. Prepares report cards and progress reports. Facilitates conferences with students and parents. Completes required paperwork in speci?ed time and manner. Conducts appropriate assessments of students' work and maintains accurate and regular data on students in areas of attendance, grades and IEP progress, if applicable. Supervises students in out-of-classroom activities as assigned. Assists administration in implementing policies and rules governing student life and conduct. Informs parents of student progress concerning academic achievement and behavior through conferences, written messages, telephone calls and/or email. Promptly reports any serious accident or illness affecting students in the teacher's charge or any incident, which might affect the school, teachers or students therein. Develop, implement and maintain a system to track and maintain tools and equipment (loss prevention and continued maintenance). Ensures that materials and equipment are properly used, maintained and stored, and that inventory records are accurate and current. Maintain a budget with a positive balance, maintain, and turn in all associated records in a timely manner. Attend all required meetings. Effectively collaborate with regional CTE teams. Actively partners with local Community College to create seamless transitions for students. Attend regional and state student competitions. Appropriately maintains and secures confidential records and inquiries. Maintains appropriate certi?cations and training hours as required. Professionally represents the school and the District in interactions with parents, community, staff and students. Complies with applicable District, state, local and federal laws, rules and regulations. Adheres to all standards established by Teachers Standards and Practices Commissions for Competent and Ethical Educator. Attends work regularly and is punctual.QUALIFICATIONS
Education and/orExperience:
Advanced degrees are not a requirement for this CTE position, but prior successful experience in a relevant industrial arts industry, such as construction, building, welding, maintenance, etc. is required. Experience working with youth is strongly preferred.WORK ENVIRONMENT

Salary and work year to be according to the current negotiated contract. The position could be part-time or full-time, depending upon the District and employee needs.EVALUATION
