Job Description
Explore a new career with the BLM - where our people are our most precious resource. This position is located in Lakeview, OR. We expect to fill many vacancies. This is a temporary appointment. Appointment to this position will not convey permanent status and will be for a period not-to-exceed 1039 hours in a service year. In order to be rated as qualified for this position, we must be able to determine that you meet the qualification requirements - please be sure to include this information in your resume. No assumptions will be made about your experience. GS-5: At least one (1) year of specialized work experience equivalent to the GS-04 grade level (or equivalent) in the Federal Service (or private or public sectors) performing most or all of the following: (1) Providing written and oral information to the public on the mission and role of BLM, recreational opportunities, wild horse and burro adoptions, map purchases, area archeology and area history; (2) Responding to inquiries concerning such matters as land status and ownership, land sales, timber sales, mining claims, oil and gas leases and permits, rights of way, and/or grazing permits; (3) Assisting the public in determining land ownership and provides information by referencing Master Title Plats, Land Status Records and current mining claim microfiche; (4) Conducting research necessary to respond to written or in-person inquiries, and, when appropriate, refers complex technical inquiries to the proper sources of information; and (5) Researching requests for copies of documents, I.e., patents, plats, serial register pages and other related materials. OR Successful completion of four years of higher education above high school OR A combination of experience and education to meet total experience." GS-06: At least one (1) year of specialized work experience equivalent to the GS-05 grade level (or equivalent) in the Federal Service (or private or public sectors) performing most or all of the following: (1) Applying substantial knowledge and background on the mission and role of BLM to research and respond to a variety of complex inquiries concerning such matters as land status and ownership, land sales, timber sales, mining claims, oil and gas leases and permits, rights of way, and/or grazing permits; (2) Assisting customers by researching and copying case file folder, including mater tile plats, historic indexes, survey records, and patents; (3) Researching legal documents and preparing written responses or furnishing printed material related to land, mineral, mining claim recordation and recreation inquiries; (4) Providing legal copies of official records and documents for court proceedings or for filing with other government agencies; and (5) Ensures documents are accurate and complete and all avenues of research have been completed Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. You must meet all qualification requirements by the closing date of the announcement.
Physical Demands/Work Environment:
The work is typically sedentary. Some work may require periods of walking, standing, bending, or driving a motor vehicle. The incumbent may frequently lift relatively light boxes, materials, and supplies and /or carry file folder's copied materials, books, and other similar materials. Work is typically located in an adequately lighted, heated, and ventilated office environment. The work environment may involve everyday risks or discomforts that require normal safety precautions typical of such places as offices, mail distribution centers, meeting and training rooms, libraries, or motor vehicles.Similar remote jobs
