Job Description
Position Summary L.J. Kruse Co. is seeking a hands-on Controller to manage all financial accounting, reporting, and administrative functions of the company. This role is administrative-heavy and requires strong construction accounting experience, including job costing and Work-in-Process (WIP) reporting. The Controller will report directly to the President/CEO while working closely with executive leadership. Key Responsibilities Manage day-to-day accounting operations, including billing and collections, AR, AP, general ledger, job cost accounting, cash management, and both union and non-union payroll. Prepare monthly and year-end financial statements with supporting schedules; manage year-end close and WIP reporting. Prepare quarterly financial reports and budgeting updates; support forecasting and cash flow management. Oversee cash flow, customer collections, payroll processing, and vendor payments. Prepare and file all required tax filings, including federal, state, payroll, sales, and property taxes. Supervise and manage an accounting/office staff of three (3) employees. Maintain relationships with banks, CPAs, auditors, insurance, and bonding providers; coordinate external audits. Administer company insurance programs (general liability, workers' compensation, etc.) and manage claims, renewals, and audits. Oversee employee benefits and administer the company 401(k) plan, including contribution deposits and year-end reporting. Manage annual customer pre-qualification requirements and related financial documentation. Qualifications Minimum of 10 years of finance and accounting experience , with significant construction accounting experience. Demonstrated expertise in job cost accounting and year-end WIP reporting. Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA preferred, not required). Experience with construction accounting software required; Vista by Viewpoint and/or ServiceTitan experience preferred . Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills. Ability to operate in a hands-on, administrative-heavy role.
