Controller

We are looking for an experienced Controller to join a government contracting organization in Lexington Park, Maryland on a contract-to-permanent basis. This role is ideal for a hands-on accounting leader who can bring stability, strengthen day-to-day financial operations, and guide a small team through a period of refinement and growth. The position offers the opportunity to make an immediate impact while helping shape a more disciplined and scalable accounting function.

Responsibilities:

• Oversee daily accounting activities and ensure core financial processes are executed accurately and on schedule.
• Lead, coach, and support a three-person accounting team while fostering accountability and career development.
• Provide direct guidance to entry-level staff involved in accounts payable and billing functions to improve performance and consistency.
• Resolve outstanding accounting issues by addressing receivables balances, payment application, final invoicing, and aging payables items.
• Perform and review balance sheet and bank reconciliations to restore completeness and improve the reliability of financial records.
• Manage month-end close activities and help maintain accurate reporting for a government contracting environment.
• Strengthen accounting workflows by introducing clearer procedures, better controls, and more effective reporting within Deltek Costpoint.
• Partner with leadership to support the ongoing development of the finance function as the organization continues to expand.
